Two long time (10 years +) mature forum members are looking for a lease within 250 miles of the Metroplex. We’re stable, no drama hunters with no difficulty following established rules. Any help pointing us in the right direction would be appreciated.

What period are you looking for, year-around, season, week, weekend, or day? I know a farmer/rancher about 200 miles west of you who has never leased and is considering doing so. I think he is considering leasing by the week and providing lodging, but has made no firm decision on that. Good numbers of better-than-average bucks since it is a one-buck county. Also, hoards of feral hogs.

We would prefer a year around lease, if possible. Reasonable blackout periods for property maintenance and improvements, etc, aren’t a big deal as we’re both conservation minded, and want the best for the property owner. We also love to hunt both hogs and coyotes.

Go straight south 200 miles then 75 miles WEst amd contact the chambers of Commerce in every town. wave

LLano Texas area has the highest population of whitetail, the Texas hill country, some nice deer but few real monsters as a rule but highest
success rate,

Laredo, Texas. the golden triangle of huge whitetail bucks

Mule deer and coues deer South of Marathon and Alpine, that Brewster and Presidio county to EL Paso..FT DAvis has nice deer mostly all Mule deer. Most of these ranches have high success rates..

Just some of the good spots and there are others, but I would steer clear of NE Texas. as a rule.

The Texas pandhandle is good deer, mostly whitetail deer..but North of Ft. Stockton has monster mule deer, low populations by Texas standers, but the best mule deer bucks anywhere..

Just a good place to shop, and take your time you have almost a year.

Start shoping early.
