The PA elk application asks that you state a preference for two elk management areas, or "any". I don't know how to answer as I've never so much as seen an elk, don't know the PA elk country.
Can anyone suggest some good online resources to help me make an informed decision about this? Or better yet, refer me to an informed person who might be willing to share some information?
I would suggest that you join and post this query at www.bushnelloutdoors.com on the General section. There are several hunters from Pa. on the board and you won't believe how helpful them good old boys can be. derf

for PA elk it is a lottery and good luck winning, as far as info you can go to the PA game commisions web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us.there should be info there,Im not 100% sure but a local tv station has a show called pa outdoor life and they did a show on the first elk hunt in pa and I think a guide can be provided if you need one, every hunter that was on the show had a guide from what I remember hope this helps and good luck

It doesn't matter what area you pick. Success rate will be 100% if you get a permit. However, the chances of actually getting a permit for this is the same or less than being struck by lightning. Dream on!

From what I can find out you want to pick "any" If you pick say 1 and 2 your done as soon as 1 and 2 are picked but if you pick any your in the drawing till the end.

Exactly. Everything in PA is a state controlled racket, from booze to emission testing. Elk hunting is no different, but then again, a few lucky bastards will get the chance at some monster sets of antlers.
