Environmental commissioner rejects bear hunt policy 11/15/2006, 5:59 p.m. ET The Associated Press TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The state's top environmental official said Wednesday that she will not support a New Jersey bear hunt this year. Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Lisa Jackson has rejected the state's black bear management policy, which included the controversial bear hunt, tentatively scheduled for December. In a letter Wednesday addressed to the New Jersey Fish and Game Council, Jackson said other means of controlling the bears numbers — such as educating the public and controlling garbage — had not received enough attention. As a result, she said, the policy as it currently stands does not reflect her views that non-lethal methods should be used before allowing a hunt to proceed. Gov. Jon S. Corzine, who has voiced opposition to the hunt in the past, had asked Jackson to review the state's black bear policy. -------------------------------------------- Bear proof garbage cans and education will control bear population?

Translation == The powers that be don't like hunting so they are going to ask the bears to follow a policy of sexual abstinence. Which will work just as well as it's worked on America's teenagers. analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.

We are pissed! SCI, USSA, and NJ Federation will sue the state. Jackson is the puppet. Governor Corzine pulls the strings. You can read all about what kind of a mess NJ Hunting has become on NewJerseyHunter.com In order to hunt in NJ you have to be politically informed.

Maybe you could train the bears to eat the politicians !! Bear populations are growing and the bears seem to be getting bigger .There was one that went into Port Jervis NY [the intersection of NY,NJ,PA] climbed a tree and took a nap last week! Near there a bow hunter took a 686 lb bear on opening day.Last year PA took 4000 out of a population of 14,000 !!You can't teach the dummies not to feed bears so it will take a disaster to wake up the politicians .

I hope Tony Soprano pops that one that comes into his back yard. Might help public opinion. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
