Yes, it's a terrific sale on a great bullet. For those too young to remember, the Solid Base bullets were the predecessors to the Ballistic Tip, and many veteran hunters considered them the best thin-skinned game bullets available. I took advantage of the sale a couple of weeks ago. I am thinking I may call today & get a few more boxes... For the last 3 years I have used nothing but these bullets for my 300WSM. This bullet has put meat on the ground each and every time with no tracking. I couldn't ask for a better constructed and accurate bullet.

I haven't read it anywhere, but are these bullets on sale because they are close-outs and will be discontinued? Usually when a manufacturer discounts a product that much, they are clearing out a product line. I just don't want to work up a load, then find out that I can't get the bullets any more.

Hoghunting...at that price buy 5 boxes. 50 to work up a load and you have a lot left to hunt with Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Are these solid base Noslers a better bullet then a Remington Core Lokt? Seems like they would be but I dont have any experience with the solid base Nosler bullets.

Years ago I got my first 30-06 and bought a couple boxes of 100 count of nosler 165 gr. solid base. It would almost cut cloverleafs at 100 yards if I did my part, and killed deer, hog etc. super fast. I hated to see them discontinued, but was thrilled they returned. I dug out my old load and loaded up a box. Will buy a few more boxes so I wont run out. Eterry Good luck and good shooting. I'll be darned...I thought all the good deals were over at Noslers "shooter proshop". I wonder why they have 2 actual retail sites and don't post equally on both??

While the Remingtons are decent bullets, they can, in no way, compare to the Noslers. The Noslers will provide match grade accuracy, and on-game performance is superb. As of late, the Remingtons can be counted on for one thing: extreme inconsistency. My last batch was badly tarnished, had many noses deformed (yes, even on this style of bullet) and had weight variations as much as 3 grains. These were 7mm, 140s by the way... Jarrod wrote: "Tarnished so what" Jarrod- I guess the rest of the post escaped you. My point was that many of the Remington bullets now are no better than "seconds" and should be sold as such. Do you want bullets that start out with weight variations of plus/minus 3 grains, imperfections in the jacket, imperfect noses -- and tarnish to boot??? Heck, you can get Nosler "seconds" that are clearly SUPERIOR to Remington "firsts," but you spend your money wherever you see fit... I'm still mad at Nosler for discontinuing the Solid Base bullets the first time. Now it looks like they are about to discontinue them again!! My money goes elsewhere.

olarmy- Don't be so quick to write them off. Nosler holds a similar sale every year about this time if I remember correctly. These 2nd generation Solid Base bullets were intended for a line of ammo from a major manufacturer that gave the marketing little thought and did a poor job of promotion. More than likely, Nosler decided to test the waters by selling the component bullets, hence the SBs we've all been enjoying for a couple years now. No, they probably aren't going to be around forever. But this sale doesn't necessarily spell their demise. Heck, if a huge sale in any indicator, then the 30 caliber, 150 grain Ballistic Tip would be a goner, too as Nosler recently had them marked WAAAAYYYY down -- and we KNOW that bullet is going to be around a long, long time... No the rest of the post didn't escape me as I'm not completely stupid. Deformed noses etc. yeah that can be a problem. Tarnished who gives a bid deal put them in the tumbler for a little while be as shiny as ever. "Science only goes so far then God takes over."
