Has anyone used Speer Nitrex rounds say in .270 or 30-06?? If you did what; what did yo think about them??

I have found them to be pretty accurate in the limited testing at the range I have done. As I recall they are loaded with the Grand Slam which is a very nice bullet. My friend scored eight one shot kills with a 160 grain grand slam in Africa last summer. ------------------

A friend acquired several boxes of 150gr., 270s at a SCI fund-raiser some years ago: five shots later, at various ranges in TX, MT and PA, four dead whitetails and a mulie. [This message has been edited by glenn (edited 11-06-2001).]

A friend of mine took his 270 Win with 150 gr Nitrex and a 308 Win with 180 Nitrex on an African Plains game hunt this summer. He was quite impressed with the performance, but did conseed, that the 270 was a bit "light" for Zebra, Kudu, and Wildebeest. ------------------

Paleohunter, I used Speer Nitrex 180 gr Grand Slam factory loads in a .308 Win in Zimbabwe in September. They worked fine, most of them exited. I did recover one bullet from an almost Texas heart shot (hip on one side to shoulder on the other, or corner-to-corner), which retained about 85%IIRC. I decided to take the same load to Saskatchewan for a whitetail hunt next week. At the range last Saturday checking sights my last two shots to check the zero went into a .157" "group" at 100 yards. This rifle is a Steyr and is accurate, but so obviously are those loads. jim ------------------
