I saw 5 do that off an overpass on Hwy 17 in Western New York years ago, a deer drive pushed them out of the woods and they started across the overpass. A vehicle came onto the bridge from the other end and they went over the rail, following the lead doe.

Interesting but why was it horrifying.

Wild animals die in many ways.

Nice buck.

One night I when I was working I was coming down a hill to a river bottom and noticed a pickup parked on the bridge.

As I pulled up and activated my emergency lights the driver stepped out and I recognized him as my neighbor.

I asked him what was up he told me as he drove onto the bridge a deer jumped over the edge and was laying on the ice below.

I told him I would have look and take care of it.

He drove off I grabbed my flash light and sure enough about 15 feet below laid a doe with what appeared to have a couple broken legs.

I went back to the cruiser grabbed my 870 put a round of 00 buck in the chamber leaned over the rail. Then shot the deer in the head it kicked a couple of times and was dead.

I then went back to the cruiser placed the shotgun in the rack inform dispatch that I put down an injured deer and drove off.

Can't even count the number injured deer I killed on the job over 30 plus years.

I guess animals dyeing is only horrifying to people not used to death.

I seen way to many humans dead and dyeing from many things to be to concerned about animals dyeing accidental deaths.

A couple of years ago, one of the guys comes back from lunch. He says, he starts over the railroad bridge and there's a small buck walking down the pavement. When he hit the brakes the little buck ran and jumped over the side. It a 100 foot or more drop. Everyone said bull crap. Several went and looked after work. Sure enough dead deer laying beside the tracks. Tuff brake for the little deer.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

So 2th doc why are deer jumping of a bridge horrifying.

Please explain.

I personally think that wanting to commit assault on another human is a bit over the top.

And gives all hunters a bad name.

I killed a black bear 485# in Pa's archery season a couple years ago. One month after checking the bear my phone rings on a Saturday morning an it is a GW from the County where I killed the bear. He wants a full detail report on just where/how I killed bear which I told him. He then says he is sending a citation because I was hunting in a baited area (illegal in Pa). Seems my neighbor was baiting deer and they did a sting on him 1month after I killed bear and my kill site was within 1000 yds of his bait pile. The bait was behind posted property signs he had placed and out of my sight. In 2weeks the post man brought the citation if I pled guilty the fine would be $1250.00 with revocation of 3 years under the Wildlife Trust Act which pulls hunting rights in all member states or I could go to court.
I loose $750/day to travel to court300 miles away so 2 days is more than the fine as I would definitely appeal the guilty verdict at least once. I pled guilty I pled guilty. I also posted my property over 2500 acres that was always at least partially open to the public for trespass to hike, fish, hunt, flower sniff, whatever.

Good advice from a guilty game law violator.

I hope he has a better relationship with people he contacts on the job than he comes across conversing with members on this website!

My son in law lost his hunting tag for a game code violation in Pa., USA (he is a dumb ass) But I have deposits on a trip to Ontario for him, my son and myself next fall, may he still purchase a hunting tag in Canada?

And exactly what is wrong with him asking that question of the members? IMHO his earlier comment about you on this thread seems to be right on the button!

And what does any of his replies have to do with deer jumping off of bridges.

I related a true story related directly to the original topic.

Then I get threatened with personal violence.

So why don't you explain how deer jumping of bridges is horrifying.

Considering 2th doc's past encounters with LEOs it might seem he has a chip on his shoulder.

Like I said it zoomed over his head. Either he is truly ignorant of his persona or just plain ignorant. These type of posters with their " I have a retort to everything attitude" and" if I do not do it then it is not worthy for anyone else to do" mostly just get ignored by the majority of AR's membership. Judging by the amount of messages I have gotten in the past 12 hours most do not bother to read his posts anymore.
I feel sorry for him an shall pray for him.

Back to the original subject.

I have seen them jump off a bridge of sorts but nothing like described in the articles. We have a couple of "bridges" that cross swamps on the golf course I live on. The "rail" is a few inches high. Depending on the time of the year, it may be totally dry underneath or there may be 3 feet of standing water.

I have seen deer jump off of these several times. A couple of times I am quite sure they were injured but not like the injuries in the article. More like blown out knees or something else causing them to limp severely.

We have occasionally seen a deer with a leg snapped in half. I always wonder how that happens.

As the saying goes, shit happens.
