Maybe I missed this if it was discussed before. Anyone have experience with Kifaru rifles?
They look strange but then...so do I!

In the May 2002 issue of "Rifle," Ron Spomer did a write-up of the Kifaru.

The article included several pictures and the gun displayed just horrid welding and worse machining. Maybe the gun was a pre-production proto, but those pictures just killed what infinitesimal interest I might of had in it.

Jmac I saw those pics also.Did you see the pic of the mag box?It looked like someone had cut the slots with a chain saw.I pray this is not the kinda work that people are paying over $3000 for. [Eek!]

I noticed the mag box too. So I was even more impressed with the job I did on the mag box from my light weight rifle. The Kifaru rifle or rambling rifle is an interesting concept. I myself am not interested. Gunsmiths are getting light weight rifles down nearly as light as the kifaru. And they still look like a rifle.

What about the huge holes in the bolt? I don't care what they say, that can't be to good. And it looks like I welded the recoil lug on. [Big Grin] But I do like the final weight.

I remember the mag box slots too. It looked like someone free-handed them with a dremel tool. What I can't believe, is that they sent a rifle looking like that to be evaluated by a writer! Makes you wonder what the average 'off-the-shelf' model would look like.

It's a very interesting concept, and the assembled product was strange looking, but neat. I would definitely want to look over the exact one I would be getting before plunking down that much cash though.

Even if the finish was perfect, there comes a point were a rifle is too light for it's own good. I simply can't shoot a 6lb rifle as well as I can a 7lb gun. I can't remember what the Kifaru weighed but I'm sure I'd be happier with something that looked more like a rifle. Terry

I like an 8lb rifle, but then my target gun weighs 15. If more hunters would spend a few minutes in the gym or out for a walk there wouldn't be half the demand for such whippy rifles.

You guys are right, the rifle does look like a piece of s*#t but I handled one at one of the shows last year and it really hung on the target like a much heavier rifle...that odd little horizontal prong on the front (the front handhold) really does work.

It isn't what I would choose as an all-around rifle but if I was into running up and down mountains chasing sheep, goats and ibex I would want to at least shoot one to see if I liked it.
