I am a lucky man. My 11 year old son killed his first game animal ever on 4-19-08, which was the youth turkey hunting day in Pennsylvania. He has been practicing calling and shooting his shotgun for several months and has been going with me most mornings and evenings to listen and look for birds. He shot this jake at about 18 yards at 6:30 am.

My 14 year old daughter killed a nice 2 year old gobbler on 4-26-08 (18# - 9.5" beard) which was her second turkey. She killed a jake last year. She killed her turkey at 30 yards at 11:40 am after a frustrating and soaking morning afield, being messed up by other hunters, hens and a thunderstorm. After a perfect set up and short call in of 3 longbeards, she said "that was perfect!!" I reminded her of all of the screw-ups before the good set up and all of the work that went into that turkey.

I am proud of both of them for being steady at the moment of truth and cleanly killing their birds. I told them that they have done something that a lot of grown men have never done.

My kids appreciate and value the time we spend together outdoors, but not nearly as much as I do.

"Congratulations" Dad-- and "Kudos" to the kiddos!

clap

You are blessed with a fine family-- and it's super that y'all share the enjoyment of the Good Lord's outdoors with each other.

GREAT JOB!

I honestly get more enjoyment out of my kids' successes in the field, than my own.

Congratulations to the youngsters! It just sounds fantastic. My dad wasn't a hunter and my son doesn't seem interested so I don't suspect I will have that opportunity. My grandson on the other hand Big Grin. Well we'll just have to wait and see Cool.

I'm glad to see new hunters in the fold.

Congratulations to you and your kids!! My boys have been coming out in the woods with me since they big enough to step over a stick, but it was only last spring that the oldest could legally shoot. I enjoy my time in the woods with them much more than most of the time I spend hunting myself.
