These are some real newbie questions but...
Me and some friends are going to MT to hunt for the first time and the MT website is confusing so I will just ask yall. We are planning on going the last week of October after our planting season is over in FL. We are planning on hunting on public land and are going "TRY" to shoot an Elk without a guide, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Now on to my newbie questions...

1) Does the deer part of the tag apply to Whitetail or Mule Deer or Both?
2) Which side of the state do I need to look at going to, Eastern or Western?

Thank you,
Ben White

Deer tag is for either species.Get yourself a guide for the Elk.Your chances first time out of getting an Elk DIY are pretty slim. You should hunt The West part of State for Elk.East part for Mulies. You might want to call Fish & Wildlife for advice on Elk.They will help you out but you have to do the calling!!!

You will really need a guide for elk, I think the DIY succsess rate is like 20%. If you need a guided hunt feel free to PM I Have spots left for my Combo hunts.
Thanks!
