I am curious as to what is the most northeast area in Montana that holds a huntable population of elk.

Its mainly a draw areas for the bulls and are on private land. Most of the public land elk are in the western area of the state along with the heavy timber and the high mtns. Good luck. www.african-montana-taxidermy.com life member of SCI life member of NRA NTA Master Scorer SCI Scorer for Rowland Ward www.african-montana-taxidermy.com

best bet is probably the north side of Ft. Peck reservoir within and adjacent to the C.M. Russell Game Range. Hunting is by drawing only. Check with Pat Gunderson, Region Six supervisor, Mont Fish Wildlife and Parks in Glasgow. He would have some more specifics.

I already have the general license and am looking for a place to use it that is closest to Minnesota.

Most of those areas are special draws besides your license. You would be really lucky to draw the first year, most are multiple year waits.June 1 is the deadline on special draws.Best get on the horn to a Game Biologist for suggestions!!!

22 WRF With general license in hand, your closest option is the Little Belt Mountains of central Montana between Lewistown and White Sulphur Springs. Lots of forest service. Good luck.
