I have a burning question. No I guess it is not so much a burning question as a dumb one, but we are taught that there is no such thing as a sumb question. I think that someone who did not know the answer thought up that one.
Anywho,do ya'll like bigger and slowere bullets better or smaller faster, bullets better? I kind of like half-fast bullets myself.
Does the old saw hold true, yours may be bigger than mine, but I know what to do with it, for bullets like it does for fishing rods and other tools?
Does your dear or elk (that sounds strange) prefer big and slow, small and fast, or average and half-fast? Finally, are you living up to your potential, bullet wise?

I am not a sane person, I just play one sometimes.

Big and slow fits my bill. 550 grs is a good all-round weight. 1325 fp is plenty fast. Plenty.

I like a 200 grain bullet moving ~ 3000 fps at the muzzle.

For deer, bullet weight; light 120 grains, heavy 150 grains.

Any bullet weight in a range of 125 to 150 grains in .264 to .308 calibres, (going up the weight range as calibre increases), at 2,800 fps muzle velocity will kill deer.

125 grains in 264
130 in 270,
140 in 7mm,
150 in 308.

My preferance is for the 7mm 140 grain bullet, however I've used all of them and they all performed well.

If a 270 grain .375 at 2,700fps busts your onions, then use it, it certainly will kill.

For Elk, I've not seen one outside a deer farm, but I would be quite happy to use my 9.3 in the woods.

I'm old school, for my medium caliber chamberings under .375, I prefer high sectional density (i.e heavy for caliber) Hornady Interlocks (SP & RN) or Nosler Partions moving along around 2700-2900 fps @ muzzle. These proven performers penetrate well and expand decently in sensible performance envelopes. No plastic tips, no boattails, no magic fairy dust sprinkled.

All depends on how far you want to shoot accurately with the trajectory you choose.
