What ever the gene is that holds the love of all things outdoors my daughter got it from me. Since the time she was age 4 she has hunted with me every chance she gets. She shot her first hog, of many now, when she was age 5 and her fist deer at age 7.

This weekend we were invited to hunt a buddy's place in Pearsall and he mentioned having a big 7 point on his trail cam. My daughter was all over it. We sat where he was frequenting Friday night but he did not show. One of the other hunters mentioned seeing a big 7 in an oat field not far from us. We sat there the next day in the morning with no action and decided to sit there again in the evening. About 6:30pm the deer switch was thrown and they came trickling into the field, does at first then young bucks then OUR buck. He walked in at 350 yards. I explained to her that he was as far out as he could be and would feed closer. He did just that. By 6:45 he was 115 yards from us feeding behind a group of does. She got the gun out the window and set up on him. Something got his attention out in the field and he held his head up for a few seconds, a fatal mistake. She is a great shot and knows animal anatomy well. At 111 yards she put a 70gr TSX through his neck. It hit the bone directly, shattering it and cutting his jugular. His head flew back violently and he fell in a heap. She started shaking so badly I thought my rifle was heading out the window for sure. After he did not move for several minutes it was off to get our hands on him. First thing she did when she got up to him was get a handful of oats and put one bunch on him and the other in his mouth, it made me proud. She skinned and butchered him all by herself, her first animal to totally do herself. It took her almost 2.5 hours but she was determined to finish. I let her even though I wanted to eat and go to bed.
It was a great weekend with great experiences and many memories made.

Congrats to BOTH of you! That smile in the first photo nearly tells the entire story right there. That was some great shooting on your daughter's part as well. tu2 tu2

That is some great stuff! It heartens me to know that so many of us are raising our kids right!

Tell your daughter that she is doing a great job as a role-model for my daughter.

Great stuff!

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

Congrats to you and your daughter, a wonderful way to bond. like Hank Jr. sings ""... its a family tradition" ( altough his lyrics were more in the saloon than hunting field, I refer to it in a good way!)

Ha, you obviously have a daughter to notice that! I'll pass it on to her, she'll be thrilled (as will her mama).

Stud of a seven point! Pass on my well deserved congratulations for such a fine deer and well placed shot.

That is fantastic. Proof that some trophies can not be measured with a tape ... even though that is one monster 7! I am sure both of you will not soon forget this experience.

I can only imagine how proud you are of her.
