Rather than hijack the "tred is a jackass" thread, I'll ask here; who do we like? I myself really enjoy Jim Shockey's show, along with Jim Zumbo, that McNeal guy from S. Africa, and Jack Brittingham. They have good material and all seem like decent guys, on tv anyway.

I tell you someone who I enjoy watching more and more is Kim Hicks from Hunting 201. At first, I did not care to much for the show but I got hooked. He is humble and modest and does not have an Ego that becomes more and more grating, like others. The show is actually informative and the cinematography is good.

I look forward to the next season and wish him the best.

Other than that, the rest are just entertainment, and mighty poor at that! I no longer subscribe to any but there is a syndicated show, "Buck Mcneely" OMG! What a waste of air! thumbdown

If we're talking TV, I like the guys on Realtree Outdoor adventures, especially Jim Miranda, he is really a self made guy, grew up as kid trapping and filming.
I knew Bill Jordan before Realtree was big, and he was a little different then, now he just goes on guided hunts and smokes the biggest whatever, helping these destinations with publicity I suppose--so who could blame him?

I also knew David Blanton 'back in the day'--he had an Outdoor Store in LaGrange Georgia called Dixie Outdoors, and he was a hunting fool back then too....hell of a Turkey hunter--still is...and seems to be a great family man nowdays.

I do agree with most on the other thread---Tred IS a jackass.

Outdoor shows I do enjoy....

Boddington's Surefire in Africa

Kim Hick's Hunting 201

Jim Shockey's show...I like how he pays tributes to the old greats of the hunting world.

Dangerous Game on OLN.

David Blanton, who appears on Jordan's Realtree stuff, is really a fine man. He is as country as a mule fart and is incapable of faking much anything. What you see is what you get.

Someone above mentioned that he is a good family man. I believe David to be so and can only say that assuredly David learned it from his sainted father who died this month. Don... his dad... was the best. God rest his soul. I am lucky to have spent many a night in his house as a guest of his and his lovely wife (sometimes being lucky enough to have David and the clan join us). I even have a knife Don made for me from a sketch I made as a guide. I treasure the knife and the memories.

David used to work at Burnt Pine Plantation near Madison?, Georgia. I think I was his first successful bowhunt back in 1972 or so??? Good folks, for sure.

BTW, if you want to see the ultimate T.V. hunt, watch Mossy Oak Classics' lead in. An old fat man shoots a good whitetail jumping a fence.. I wonder who that was?

O.K... you've seen it before, but darn it was fun!

I don't get OLN so I'm sure I'm missing some good ones there.

I probably like Craig Boddington's the best. I take all advertizing with a grain of salt. It's just advertizing.

Jim Shockey does some good shows and he adds a little humor in them. How many times has he fired his cameraman Cody?

Jack Brittingham also does some good shows and he almost always gets very high quality animals. He makes me want to go buy the winning lottery ticket.

Jim Zumbo also does some good shows.

Steve Scott did one recently on bullet placement that I thought was very good.

And finally, Cindy Garrison sure is easy on the eyes. She even shoots her .375 pretty well.

Jim Shockey has the best show on TV, he seems to have a lot of knowledge.

Cindy Garrison's camera man is one lucky dude. Do you ever notice that there are a lot of shots of her rearend? It is a "have to watch" show.

Eastmans show is really good, especially the do it yourself hunts.

I have watched Jack Brittinghams show some, it is good. It is amazing what one can accomplish with 350 million dollars. I wish my family had started a tile business way back when, I would have a show like Jack's, and buy up some of the best hunting land in the US. He has an excellent waterfowl place here in OK near Fort Cobb Lake, world class. I hunted the watershed he now owns way before he knew it existed. He is living the hunters dream. He also has the best theme music going.

I recently received my alumni magazine from the University of Oklahoma. I did graduate, but somehow the liberalism that I was exposed to never took hold. They did a piece on Steve Scott, he is a professor there in Finance or something. It talked about his hunting and his television shows. It had an awesome picture of him with an ibex he smacked. Another photo showed him with cape buff he smacked with a bow. I was impressed that such a liberal University would print a piece like that. I hope ole Steve don't get much flak from the folks down there.

I really enjoy "Under Wild Skies" & "Under Wild Skies: Africa" on Sunday mornings(in the fall and winter) on ESPN2

Of course "Dangerous Game" with Doug McNeil on OLN

And "Get Wild" with Cindy Garrison on ESPN2

As well as anything featuring or narrated by Gerald McCraney or Lee Horsley ( The Berretta Shows on OLN) and if Africa, all the better.

I am sick to death of "hunting whitetail from a tree stand" shows!!!!!!!! thumbdown

Funny how Eastman's touts "public land hunts" yet all those big mule deer Guy Eastman has killed the last few years (the big one in Wyoming on Wendell Fraughton's Ranch and the one from Kansas) were both outfitted hunts on private lands. They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.

Shockey would rather wound an animal with his muzzleloader several times before it dies, rather than using an appropriate weapon and doing it right.

Barta is an arrogant, unethical bastard.

At least Zumbo actually EATS what he shoots!

Jordan and Bushman (and their groupies) are just actors in camo who shoot shit.

The rest are just fodder inbetween.

I love the "No Fences here" quote! While Mike is standing near a barb wire fence. He is also pretty arrogant. I don;t know about his son, they were still in high school when I knew them.

Not sure what your hinting at, but if I looked in the mirror and seen myself as these people, I would sell my rifles and hang up my bow.

The Kansas hunt with Eastmans was pretty gay. I'm sure I saw a fence, and I don't think they were on public land. In fact, I bet they heard rumors of that big deer so they paid whatever it took to get him, thus making them look like great white hunters. Just my two cents.

Jim Shockey is a jackass. Tred is a little nuts but I like watching his shows a lot better than some jackass with a tassled western shirt and a black cowboy hat wearing a Concho belt and he's black bear hunting? Jack brittingham does some amazing hunts but rambles a little too much in his skitted conversations with his show guests.

I don't agree. Maybe in your part of the country, but not in mine. I know my limitations, Farta doesn't. Arrogant people like him need good ass kickings every now and again.

I do agree with that. The brokeback hunt was for a deer that had been groomed for the Eastman boy since it was born. You notice they weren't too spooky. I like their show just to see the game, but they should practice what they preach. A lot of BS talk in the show, but some good footage nonetheless.

Why make fun of the way someone dresses? I bet if you saw someone wearing a mossy oak shirt and realtree pants you would make fun of them too. I personally think the red plaid hunting jackets are kind of out of place in hunting camp, but I do like them. A lady friend pointed out to me(notice I CMA [cover my ass]) and now I am wondering, why some of the african hunters wear real tight khaki super short shorts. Not wanting to offend anyone, but what is up with that? Men shouldn't have cameltoe, once again, a lady friend pointed it out, otherwise I would have never noticed. How about the plains indians of the 1800's? Would you make fun of their feathers and face paint. I think they wore conchos too. What exactly should someone wear to hunt black bear? If I were to really get one on one with them, I would strip down cover myself with mud and chase them with a spear, but then I would look like a jackass and lend myself to the Farta genre.

You could have amazing hunts too if you had 350 million dollars, ten cameras, and a script writer.

Something about being in the backcountry bear or elk hunting and being dressed like your going 2 stepping at a country bar. Real men dont dress up to go hunting! Plus he tries to sell every product that he has stamped his name on. Gets old. H hunts in great places because he has pull especially in BC buti cant stand to look at him.

The product thing does get old, personally I fire Barnes MZ bullets out of my muzzleloader, a TC encore I had way before Shockey, but I am sure he is more of an expert than me since he has a show. Right. I wonder if Shockey was shooting front stuffers in 1975? I did notice that Shockey sold out to TC from Knight. No matter what press release he issued or what he says, its all about the money.

Jimmy Houston sucks too.

I watch whichever show is on, not for the host but for the scenery and animal footage. I could mute most of the shows and be fine. However no matter who it is, it clearly appears that to keep the shows going they have to pop there sponsors advertising in somehwere and all too much here lately. To me the videos have gone too much to the skitted BS , I want to see wilderness and wildlife and they should be cutting the BS shots some of these guys take. I watched one of the Brittingham videos where they were hunting blackies in SE Alaska and the guy actually shot a 7 ft bear right in the ass at like 40 yards. Come on, how could you even air that stuff, if the guy couldn't make the shot he shouldn't have taken it! That guy couldn't even keep the arrow nocked.

Alaskacub, I believe I am familiar with the blackbear shot in the ass episode you are describing. I can't believe that one ended up on film, and I thind the guy was way to shook to have taken the shot anyway. I too tend to watch what ever is on because I am watching the game and scenery. I watch everything I see from Alaska. I don't care how hokey the host may be. I do get tired of the BS though. I would be glad never again to hear "this is what it's all about", or hear someone describing some animal as a pest as a way of justifing killing it. I don't need justification to hunt, it's hard wired into my conciousness. Hunting is natural to human beings, other wise we would have gone extinct a long time ago. Okay, I'll get off that soap box before I get on a roll. Even with their faults and personalities I really enjoy the hunting shows and I truly wish I had the means to hunt that much. Hell, I might even make a film of it so I could show you guys! Big Grin

TOM F!#$%@#$^ MIRANDA!

So far, he is the only one I have seen take a muskox with a bow in Alaska. Ironically, that was the rerun on ESPN this morning. Funny thing, that muskox almost steamrolled him.

When Tom Miranda was younger, he would bowhunt for elephants during summer break from elementary school. The kids had NO idea who they were playin dodgeball with.

Other hunters WORLDWIDE get lucky only when Tom Miranda decides to take a day off.

Tom Miranda is the only guy that has to shoot crossbow bolts because his light draw bow is set for 175lb with the 25% let off cam. He shoots 1/2" steel rebar with his heavy bow.

During archery season, Tom Miranda can only legally hunt with his bare hands because he kills animals with his bow @ rifle shot distances.

Tom Miranda's tears cure cancer... but, Tom Miranda has never cried.

Tom Miranda's major export is fear.

Tom Miranda does not hunt because the word hunting implies the probability of failure. Tom Miranda goes killing.

Tom Miranda does not sleep. He waits.

Whenever someone is constipated, doctors send them to Tom Miranda so he can scare the shit out of them.

Tom Miranda died ten years ago, but the Grim Reaper can't get up the courage to tell him.
Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

Tom Miranda doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Tom Miranda.

Eeker

When Tom Miranda jumps into a pool, he doesn't get wet, the water gets Tom Miranda.

Anyway, I just can't stand Jim Shockey. Admittedly, he has some great footage of some of the biggest animals ever hunted on tv, but he seems so fake. The whole monotone voice with the ridiculous outfit coupled with the way he does his show.

"I'm here in (insert great hunting location) with the great guide (insert name of guide who will lead Shockey to a big animal with minimal effort) and you will watch me harvest the world record (insert animal name) with my trusty Knight Muzzleloader."

Half the time he doesn't even know what he is hunting or how to pronounce the name, he is simply there to kill the world record and be done with it, that and sell muzzleloaders and his outfit's name.

It's been over a year since we got rid of the satellite and had decent hunting/fishing programming, but I still have a few favorites. I really do like Primos, and usually even Eastmans. I also watched a lot of the Mossy Oak shows, the Wild Outdoors, and the realtree shows.

Now I'm limited to "Michigan Out Of Doors" on the local PBS channel.

COME ON COLLINS! that stuff I rattled off was my original stuff, not CHUCK F!@#$ing NORRIS stuff.Funny nevertheless, but still... clap

The 1975 chinese population boom was because of Chuck Norris. He got off of the plane in Beijing, and women within a 1,000mi radius instantly became pregnant.

Chuck Norris once brought a sheep back from the dead by rubbing his beard on it, then snapped its neck just to prove that Chuck Norris can giveth, then take away.

Chuck Norris does not use a razor to shave. He kicks himself because only Chuck Norris can cut Chuck Norris.

One more.

Chuck Noris once ate 3-72oz steaks in an hour. He spent the first 45min banging the waittress.
