Gun store in New York

Hi, I am shortly going to be visiting New York with my wife and was wondering if there are any "hunting" gun shops in the town area. I will be staying in Brooklyn and only have a few days at my disposal so shops that are hours away in a car are not an option. I am also mostly interested in hunting weapons, so preferably no shops filled with hand/BB guns Smiler. Greatful for any tips, I had a quick google but it was hard to decipher good from bad so I thought a lttle local knowledge was in order.
Thanks Toby

I definitely recommend a visit to Holland & Holland.

Also, the Beretta Gallery on Madison Ave. Nice gun room and their clothing selection is excellent. Not camo stuff but really nice European loden coats at prices lower than I've seen in Austria. Nice tweed vests and jackets, tattersall shirts, sweaters - all very good quality. Great women's dep't also!

There is also Griffen & Howe who list an address on West 44th St. I have never been there and they keep a very low profile so I can't recommend or not recommend it. I never knew it was there even tho it's almost across the street from where I stay in NY. Might be worth a call before going. If you do visit Griffin & Howe, there is an Indian restaurant right across the street (north side of 44th) that has the best lunch buffet I've had in NYC. A bit to the west is the Algonquin Hotel of New Yorker fame and if you go just a tad more to the west there is a modest restaurant (I think it's "The Flame" or something like that) that has excellent sandwiches or hot lunches at very reasonable prices.

Japanese restaurant "Azuza" (maybe Azusa) is on the north side of East 44th, just half a block off Fifth Ave.

There's an Eddie Baur or LL Bean (I forget which) on the corner of Fifth and 44th (SW corner).

You won't be allowed to even look at a handgun in any shop in NYC. But rifles and shotguns galore!

Been to the Holland and Holland store.

It was an experience. I got to hold a (as I recall it) .600 NE double.

It struck me as more a clothing store, but still, in NYC it was a treat!

The Beretta Gallery is a must see. The guns you want are on the top floor. Visit this store when in the Central Park area. Givenchy is next door, so if you let your wife wander alone there it could get expensive.

Holland & Holland is ok. As others said there are many more clothes than guns. You will still find something interesting.

I think Griffin & Howe packed up the NYC store and moved it to their New Jersey location. Definitely call before going there.

John Jovino had a store at 183 Grand Street, near NYU and Chinatown. I don't know if it is still there or not. Again, call before going there.

New York is loaded with optics stores. Not quite as cool as guns, there are still some interesting scopes and binos to look at. Cameraland posts in the classified regularly. Maybe check them out.

Good luck
