my wife and i each have 10 pref points for deer and are wondering if anyone out there can steer us to a good area to try and use these points?
We would love to hunt in the eastern plains, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem with hitting the plains is that most of it is private land and most of the better private land is wrapped up by outfitters. So even if you pulled the tag, you'd have to find a place to hunt. That may be a little hard from PA. Not like you can just drive around and knock on doors. And, a lot of the landowners there will have vouchers so you don't have to worry about drawing a tag. But they ain't gonna just give you a voucher. Some of them can sell for huge money.

That being said, there is some good hunting along the South Platte River in the northeast part of the state. And there is a fair amount of publicly owned wildife areas in that area. Same for along the Republican River north of Idalia and around Bonny Resevoir. But those are 5 or 6 pt areas and it would be a damn shame to waste the extra points to get the tag.

The area around Lamar and Spingfield has some pretty good public areas near Two Buttes Resevoir and the Queens Resevoirs. But again, thats a 5 or 6 pt area and you'd waste some points. There is a State Wildlife Area called Bosque de Oso over by Trinidad. It's something like 30,000 acres and is known for quality game. Never hunted it, but have heard some good things. 10 pts should pull that tag.

You didn't say if you were looking for a whitetail or a mulie. If I had 10 pts and wanted a good mulie I'd look to either Unit 10 or Unit 2 in the northwest corner. Both had a ton of public land and both have decent access. And, both have really good deer. 10 pts should draw a tag in either area.

PM Snellstrom, too. Between him and Aaron, you'll be in good hands.
