320 class elk
Could someone post a picture of a 320 class elk? Talked to a fellow about hunting up to a 320 bull. I have been told a 320 is a respectable bull but can't find any pictures. On your wall or on the hoof. Just want to see what I am allowed to shoot. The gentleman will be with me while I am hunting.

An honest 320 bull is a nice bull. Most of the pictures you see of purportedly 350" bulls on the internet are actually in the 320 range when you put a tape to them.
I will try to find a picture of 2 that I have that are just above and just below 320.

These bulls show 2 very different ways of getting to the 320 range.

This bull is 317. Short bottoms, good tops and light on the mass. Average sized body.

This is a big bodied, old bull with very good mass, good bottoms and small tops. He scored 327.

A 320 bull is probably 5 or 6 years old, maybe 7 if the feed is sucking.

Most bulls bigger than that would be 8 or 9 unless you had tremendous genetics, feed or both.

Busted tines can make an older bull a 320 as well.

I agree that 320 is a good bull. As stated earlier, many of the bulls that guides say are 350 are 315-320.
I’ve got an elk that’s not quite 330 on the wall at my ranch and most people are fairly impressed by him.
Funny story, I’m not that impressed by him. I shot a rag horn in college that I busted my ass for. That’s impressive to me. That 330 bull trotted out into a big meadow on the second morning of a hunt and I’ve shot old crippled range cows that were a more challenging hunt.

320 is a great bull, especially if a public land bull.

The first year I elk hunted we had someone in my friends hunting party shoot a 330" bull. I was in awe. Such an awesome creature. This was in an OTC Colorado unit and looking back...it was probably the biggest bull in the county. A lot of hunting pressure and a lot of luck.

I was told to look at the length and distance of the back two points or forks. Big deep space between and long back two points if you are trophy hunting.

My wife, adult kids and I have shot many bulls between 290 and 380+ and I will agree that a true 320" bull is a very fine specimen.

My most recent bull, from year before last, was 317 and I consider it pretty dang decent for Wyoming.

Thanks to all. I am sure I will be very happy with a 320. They all looked pretty big to me. If I can swing this I will let him know I would like to get as close to the 320 as we can.

The truth is, not only is a 320 bull a darn nice bull, it’s also bigger than most elk hunters will ever shoot in their lifetime.

That's a fact, Im surprised anyone would guarantee a bull of that size, most elk in Idaho are 285 to 300 and we have the biggest bulls in the lower 48 these days..A trophy hunter today looks for the elusive 400, and settles for a 320 more than likely..but we do get our share of 350 pluses, to a couple of 400 bulls in southern Idaho the last couple of years..Now if the game dept doesn't ruin that area with over hunting...????

My friend and guide with the best picture taken of my first bull in southeast Colorado. At that time he had taken 70 elk himself and still takes one per year.
He measured the rack there on the ground (where we also dressed it to recover the head and the meat) and got 310. Then when explaining the measurement process to me, he remembered that he had skipped a tine; he said I should add 12-15 inches to the score! Smiler

So, it probably score around 320. I really do not care as it was a great hunt, a great running away shot with my .338, and a great trophy. The antlers now guard our outdoor courtyard. Since then, I have taken cow elk and not hunted bulls.

If I remember correctly, our good friend Mad
Idahosharpershooter said he killed 20+ 350" bulls, got called out on it and ran for the hills....

A 320" bull is very nice.

dogcat - I agree.
We hunted private property and one hunter took a heavy 7x7. We also saw a herd of 5 bulls leaving the area and one of them was truly huge and the others about like mine. This area is all private land and rarely hunted, so the game is not overly spooky. The elk remain wary though as we saw a small group break and run up a nearby ridge just because a pickup pulled into view 1/2 mile away and across the river canyon.

If memory serves me correctly the number was over 30

This bull has about 25" of broken off points but still scored in the very low 320's

This is arguably a 350" class bull before the rut...and for most elk hunting tourist such as myself.....it is probably a bull of a lifetime

I have legitimately killed 14 bulls over 350"...and I'll still tell you a 320" plus bull is a great bull.

Just like a 150" whitetail is awesome, and so is a 170" muley. Its all relative to what you like, want and have the time, money and luck to do.
