Nutz, just noticed that deer season has been open for a week and I've been going to work. This has to change.

Well, you’re not alone. D 3-5 has been open almost 6 weeks and last evening was my first night on the ranch we hunt. Went salmon fishing with a client this morning (we caught 2 big Kings, one about 25 pounds and the other 30). Going deer hunting again tomorrow, since it’s the last day of the season.

I haven't hunted D15 for a few years. The last time I did, it looked like the drought really took its toll on the deer. Didn't see any deer and very little sign. Let's hope for some rain this year.

My next door neighbor is the Director of Farming for Tejon Ranch, deer numbers are down there compared to what it was 10 years ago but lion numbers are way up.

Well, that figures. More lions, less deer. And of course it will get worse as you can’t hunt the lions.

Let's not forget that California has banned the use of dogs for bear hunting, many more bears now dinning on the fawn crop.

There were very few bears where I had my place in Paso Robles but that will probably change since the county outlawed bear hunting but with the coyotes and the lions hammering the deer their population was going down fast and the pigs weren't faring any better.

My son and I have been hunting the same ranches in D5 for many years, and this year has been among the worst years ever. Very few deer, but the weather hasn't been conducive to moving deer into the lower elevation hills where we hunt. However, I have seen pictures taken by people who hunt in D3-5 of two different lions that were dead. I don't know the people but both lions were said to be in that area. We are seeing bears in areas where we very seldom saw them in year's past and also ample lions.
