I won a RMEF Rem 7mm mag at the RMEF dinner. Nice rifle with a camo stock. I wish it had open sights. I already have a 30-06 that I love and shoot very well for elk. My next pruchase was probably going to be a Marlin 45/70 for the dark timber and backup rifle.

7mm and 30-06 being so similar, should I trade it for a 45/70, or just keep it as a backup? I prefer short and light rifles.

What do you like for dark timber elk guns other than the Marlin?

That is a fine rifle!

30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

I agree, but I'm a 45/70 guy. So Marlin 45/70.

If you like your '06 then get a 45-70. If you like the RMEF 7mm then buy a 45-70. You win either way!!! clap
