I have to head to the States for a Oct 1 wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Hoping to do a little hunting with my sisters boyfriend- what options are there either before or after the wedding for either upland or waterfowl? Can anyone suggest a guide that may be able to take us out? ----------------------------------------- "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. -Henry David Thoreau, Walden

I wouldn't waste my time bird hunting in the Jackson area. Everyone will be hunting elk and deer that time of year. The fishing in the Snake river may still be good. Do a float trip.

I'm not all that familiar with Wyo bird hunting but, IF the snows haven't gotten an early start. It's possible, though I doubt much is available in that area. Contact: Wyo Wildlife, is the best advice. Wish you a safe enjoyable trip. IF you'll be around that long, elk, antelope and deer hunting seasons should be going on then too. You don't need a guide to hunt birds or waterfowl in Wyoming. You could easily rent a car and stop by the BLM or Forest Service Office and pick up some 1 to 1000 maps and ask the biologist to point you in the right direction. Mountain grouse are pretty much spot and stalk. A high power air rifle could be bought or brought along and this would make a fun hunt. Airguns are not guns in America so you would be able to buy one without a problem. Idaho Falls probably has the closest shop that would have one. Or you could order one from a online distributor and have it shipped to the hotel next day air (which will not be next day air in that part of Wyoming).

May I suggest a different tack? You're about 90 minutes by car from Pinedale and millions of acres of sagebrush, home of coyotes and prairie dogs. I could personally recommend a couple of locals that know the area and LOVE to call song dogs. No license required. A 223 or 22-250 would fill the bill. PM me if it would work for you.

Oct 1 is the opener for Antelope in WY and there will be trucks and hunters everywhere in the sagebrush areas of Pinedale. Not the best time to coyote hunt in my book.

Alrighty, then, come on down to the house and we'll watch re-runs on the Outdoor Chanel.

Go east of Kelly, past Slide Lake, past Goose wing ranch and get into the timbered hills north of the ranch across the river. There's ruffed grouse in there.

I lived in Jackson over 25 years. There are a few honkers available along the Snake River dykes out by Wilson, but not much more opportunity. Get a hold of Duxdog here on AR and ask him about the waterfowl hunting over the hill in Idaho. There are also plenty of ducks in Idaho's Swan Valley about 45 minutes south of Jackson. The only guides I know of are with http://www.tlapc.com/activities/hunting/ "There are worse memorials to a life well-lived than a pair of elephant tusks." Robert Ruark

Hi Gents, Thanks for the suggestion, would love to do a big game hunt, but don't want to spend the money on it. We will probably look into a days fishing. ----------------------------------------- "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. -Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Just a thought, you could stop at home on the way back and spend a few days chasing The King over three Llewellin Setters in Vermont for free.....Just saying.
