This morning I had a big (for this area) buck spot me and take off. I don't know how he made me in such heavy brush at 100 yds, but he did. He must have seem my head bobing around trying to get a descent shot at him. But he saw me and ran south.
So I moved my chair to a spot I haven't hunted in a couple years. Beside a small south facing hill that usually has a couple does sleeping in the heavy brush.
As I was taking my chair down there, the does ran from their spot, no surprise there. But guess who also ran the full 300 yards across the marsh without stopping? Yep, the big buck that busted me this morning.
Now that I flushed him out of that spot I'm think I should stay away from that chair for a week or so, but I had planned on hunting out of that chair tomorrow. My other spots have seen too much activity from me, that is the whole reason I was setting up that chair.
Now I don't know what to do.

I would set that chair in front of a TV with a case of beer in a cooler next to it and watch Big Grin some football or porn.

If something unusual shows up they may spook at first, but they are curious and will come and check it out.
If you had a game camera there it might show just what happens,it is funny watching them sneaking up on a deer stand that was 20 feet tall.

If one of the does happens to be hot he'll be wherever she is. I'd take my chances and try it tomorrow. Good luck!

God Bless, Louis

Did you happen to walk into a bedding area? If so I'd walk in there agin before they get there to bed down, I'd sit downwind where I could see things but still be hidden then wait for the buck. Find a nice dark blob of vegitation at least 100 yards away and sit in front of the blob not behind it.

I went ahead and gave it a shot this morning. Pushed out a deer on the way in, and didn't see anything.Froze my ass off though. The temps here dropped to a lot colder than they have been this year.
Still, I have a better chance of shooting a deer no matter where it is, as long as I am hunting instead of doing something else.

The idea of getting in front of is interesting. I have a friend who fox hunts like that and he does very well. He usually is a lot farther away from his prey than I am though.
I would think the opposite would be true, but I am going to have to think about this very seriously. Much to my surprise, I have had deer get very close to me when I am wearing good camo, but not hidden.

Do you not have any trees there? If you do, how about a simple ladder stand. Deer don't generally look up and your scent is diffused and carried away on the wind above the deer.

Otherwise I'm not sure there are any answers, excepting if first you don't succeed, then try, try again.

Seriously, you go there enough and they will eventually get used to you.

(IF it's legal you might try putting out a couple protein blocks near that spot, but ONLY if it's legal).
