The .340 is quite an amazing round that can spit out heavy bullets really fast. However there is a drawback and I'm sure you can figure it out. Recoil. Now I'm not trying to scare you off but the recoil of this cartridge is pretty nasty!! It's not that it is so hard, it's just that it kicks so damn fast. It is like getting rabbit punched. I myself would rather stick with the .338 Win because I can shoot it better. But if the recoil doesn't bother you then by all means get yourself one!!! It is one hell of a cartridge. ------------------

My dad owns a .340 Weatherby Fibermark. He had a devil of a time trying to get it to shoot tight groups. His gunsmith discovered that there was too much throat in the bore. You could drop the cartridge in it and move it around with your finger. Some work later to fix this problem and it shoot great. But be careful. ------------------ - Edward Abbey

I own a 340 Accumark, absolutely love the gun. If I could figure out how to post a picture you would be imporessed with how it shoots. I had little trouble with load development, like the other wby cartridges it likes to be loaded hot. My favorite load is a 250 grain Nosler partition at 2948 fps, 1/2 moa accurate. Wby's do have a long throat, I haven't found this to be a problem at all. Recoil is easily quenched with brake, downside is increased muzzle blast, you have to make that decison. Every bullet I have tried shoots very well with the exception of the Partition Gold and Barnes XLC, they both have potential, but seem to require exptra work. As a side note Wby customer service is excellent, if you ever have a problem they will make good on it, this includes the gun failing to hold 1.5 moa.

I shoot a .340 Wby sporter and love it. I mounted a 4 X 16 Burris Signature on it and get one hole groups when I do my part. I shoot a 225 gr. Barnes XLC at 3150 fps. and a 250 gr. Nosler Partition Gold bullet at 2950 fps. I have taken three Bull Elk, an Alaskan Yukon Moose and a huge Mule Deer with this combo and for the money invested in the off the shelf rifle, consider it hard to beat for the bigger game. A brake and good recoil pad tames it to .300 win kick. Good Shooting. ------------------

Good morning, I shoot an accumark in .340. It was the most accurate rifle I own right out of the box. While I reload, it's hard to duplicate Weatherby's ammo for this round and I've decided just not worth the trouble. It's true the kick is hard and fast, but you really only notice it at the range. I was sighting in a .416 Rem last week and compared it to the .340. The .340 is worse. But again, in the field, the 250 grain freight train is astonishing.

Just saw the results Bill and was very impressed. Its going to be hard to say no to that Weatherby now. Thanks,
