There's a couple of places you can rent machine guns and shoot them; a Bass Pro Shop; dove shooting if you're here in September...

You could also drive to Williams Arizona and take the train to the Canyon.

There was a really cool sporting clays course out in Boulder City if memory serves me. Our family went to Vegas for Christmas this past year, and my dad and I slipped out to shoot a couple rounds one day. It was called Desert Lakes Gun Club I believe. The drive was 30 minutes from Vegas if I were guessing. We didn't have guns with us, but the rentals were 686's in 12 or 20. Might be a good way to kill a morning.

You can shoot Tommy guns and other cool stuff at The Gun Store. It's on Tropicana. I drove by it last weekend on my way down to Nellis and up to Sam's Town.

I didn't have extra time so I didn't stop. But I am going back to shoot when I can.

+1 on the gun store, be prepared to spend cash, it goes by pretty fast there. Also, point of note, they only have submachine guns there.

The hoover dam is highly worth the visit, not too far of a drive from vegas. I am not usre if they are still doing the hard hat tours, but that is the way to go.

Take a look at the vegas calender see if they have any shows or exhibits while there, last time we caught the monster truck nationals and had a blast.

Wife and I did a helicopter trip to the grand canyon one day and a raft trip below the dam on another trip. Both were a good time.

Grand Canyon is nice, you can get to the north rim easier than the south rim. I like the lodge on the north rim better, the south rim has a longer drive with a few more things to see. Zion Canyon is more or less along the way there, also a national monument on the other road down there (was Ute territory before the Mormons came).

Red Rock state park is nice and only a short drive. Death Valley is more like a two-day venture from Las Vegas. Kolob Canyon is another nice little spot, most of two hours north of Las Vegas on I-15.

This coming Wednesday through Saturday there is the Western Legends festival in Kanab, Utah. That's about 3½ hours from Las Vegas (north on 15, then east out of St. George).

Old western stars will be there to meet people and sign autographs (Clint Walker, Hugh O'Brian, Ed Faulkner, Denny Miller, Dan Haggerty, etc.). You can take a tour of TV and movie sets including: Gunsmoke, the Lone Ranger, and The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Jim and I are driving down there on Saturday.

You can also run up to Rachel and look for UFO's. Don't forget to check out the Little A'le'inn.
