I would have to think that the Bison was attacked by wolves and not "one of Yellowstone's hot spots".....

The pink makes it look like burns. I would bet wolves or a bear chased him into the hot springs. The bison hang around the springs all winter and spring. Elk and bison are learning there is safety in the water. He might have just decided, get cooked or get ate!

I have a problem with the rangers finding the bison and shooting it, how natural is that. And that is preached 24/7 in the Park, almost enough to make you sick. My kids took field trips into the park years ago when they were young, and the brainwashing begins at minute one by rangers and park employees, especailly regarding wolves and bears.
