I'm looking to setup a Black Bear rifle for hunting over bait and in doing so looked at some scopes yesterday. My local pusher, gun dealer, has a NIB Bausch and Lomb 3000, 1.5-6x42, 30mm tube with the German #4 reticle. He had $429 on the box and came down to $329 pretty fast. After playing with it a while I talked him down to $300. Even though this is going to blow my budget I'm thinking about buying this scope. I don't see how I can beat it for $300. Anybody use one?

You Americans can buy a leupold VX 1 2-7x33 for under $200 US and that is the way I would go. The 2-7 x33 leupolds have lots of eye releif, good field of view and can handle recoil very well. Mine and my friends both sit on top of .416 Rigby rifles with no dramas.

Mark, Bearbasin sells the standard 1.5x6 Bausch / Busnell 4200 for $299. The 4200 has the rainguard feature, the 4000 is a discontinued model that did not. I have NEVER seen or heard of a 30 mm 4000, but I suppose they could exist.

My father in law has one on his 300 Wby, and it is a very clear scope, great magnification range, and the adjustments are nuts on when you use them. HTH, Dutch.

Read my post again. "NIB Bausch and Lomb 3000, 1.5-6x42, 30mm tube with the German #4 reticle"

It's a 3000 and yes they do exist. I know this because I held it in my hand. B&L also made a 3000 with 30mm tube and a 50mm obj. I think it was a 3-9x50. I know this because David, a guy I use to hunt with, had one.

My pusher also had the 4200 1.5-6x36, which I looked at, but I'm looking for a heavy cross hair. Like the German #4 reticle.

The 3000 is a discontinued scope that is why your pusher came down so quickly. I bought a 3000 3X9 for my 6mm Rem. Good scope. However, the price is out of whack. Show him $200 cash and see if he takes it. If not walk out and buy a 6X42 Leupold with heavy crosshairs about $300 at bearbasin.

Mark, the 3000 is worth about $125 less than the 4000. Dutch.

I have a B & L 4000 1.5-6 that I bought for $300 CDN, or about $200 US. They are good scopes, I think that price you were quoted is a little too high though. - Dan
