I get about 300 rounds a year. Far more than any of my 10 fellow hunters. Most of them shoot less than 10 a year. Most of them are successfull hunters too. We dont get 300 yard shots, usually less than 100 yds. If you are a competent rifleman, it doesnt take any practice to hit a deer in the vitals at 70 yrds with some kind of makeshift rest, year after year.

I have shooten more than 30yrs more or less actively.Competition with rifs and handguns,I hunt and keep my shooting skills on high level,I am thrusting on myself when im out there. I use in pistol .22 .222 44 .45 30-30 cals. In rifles 22-250 30-06 45-70 375 cals. 3006 I shoot half of all,On my active competition yrs I reloaded allmost 10.000 rounds/yr. Now I shoot maybe all cals together around 3-4000 rounds/yr. This is enough to keep the skill on high level,my poulse dont raise much whatewer comes infront of me. Elias

Good thread! Based on the amount of primers I buy each year, my estimate has to be around 2500 all told. This combines handgun and centerfire rifle. There is also .22LR. And there is 7.62x39 which I don't typically handload for. Make it a solid 3500. I know "hunters" who buy a 30-378 Weatherby so they can shoot 600 yds, and NEVER practice. When these idiots spot game, the whole county knows it- sounds like a war. Despite my pleadings and those of my brother-in-law, it continues. I teach my kids to dry- fire with dummy rounds, and then we go to the range. EVERYONE (even Momma) has to 'qualify' before hunting season. They are advised not to shoot if they aren't comfy with the situation. There is such a thing as ethical behavoir, although judging from what I hear and see, its vanishing quickly!

When I lived in Logan, I shot a couple of times a week at a range which has since vanished ( along with a lot of winter range ) due to a new subdivision. Even in Connecticut I got to shoot on a regular basis. Now it's a little far to the closest outdoor range and I'm out of practice real bad. Oh well...

About 4 Lbs of IMR 4064, 1 Lb of BLC-(2), 2 Lbs of IMR 4831 and 1 Lb H-380 per year. But all of these numbers should go up as I didn't get my new 22.250 until late in the shooting year and I'm waiting for my new 375 H&H.

My guess is about 300 rounds each of centerfire rifle and pistol rounds. ------------------------- High temp for today between 5*F and 10*F

Practice is good but what is lacking for most is training, I thought I was a pretty good shot until I took up high power and took a couple of training courses put on by the Army Reserve rifle team. NOW I'm a pretty good shot. If you get a chance to attend one of these events, do it. Russ

USED TO shoot LOTS more when younger. I would burn 35-40,000 round off .22 a year from the time I was about 12 until 21. ANother 20,000 rounds of .223; 25,000 rounds of handgun ammo a year for about 15 years I now only shoot about 6-10,000 a year depending on what is going on. Everything from .22 - .375H&H. Lots of .340 at 1000 yds. I really don't have to shoot that much anymore to to keep the skills fairly well honed.
