A couple of days ago a fellow started a topic entitled “Texas Huntâ€. I don’t believe that this fellow has ever hunted in Texas, but that is not really my concern. I do not wish to denigrate him, rather, I would like to illustrate my version of hunting in Texas. I’ll let you be the judge of which you think might be a more accurate depiction. It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, what follows is a few pictures and a few words to boot. I could post hundreds more pix and attempt to wax eloquent about friends, kids, old dogs, etc. but these should suffice. In Texas, even persons of moderate means can hunt numerous species of game if they so desire, I also enjoy passing on my hunting heritage to my son as well as introducing others to the joys of hunting... additionally, the sheer enjoyment of the beauty of the natural world, nature's bounty and the land overwhelms me... need I say more? Great photos! Thanks for sharing. I think the other guy was just stirring the pot! And possible, even a long time member of this forum taking a poke at everyone. One of the moderators could find out.

Many Thanks, Really Great pictures and YES, that is what hunting in Texas is all about, family/friends/time in the field/and the taking of game. Even with this however, the fact is, that because of the high fence operations in Texas and the hunting over feeders, hunting in Texas has aquired a reputation, that even other AMERICAN members of this site, comment on, and oft times negatively. Hunting in Texas, IS WHAT IT IS, no other state has the same conditions that we do. Even Rhode Island has more Public Land for its size, 7% compared to 3%, than Texas does. The problem we face is the perception of non-Texans as to what hunting is in Texas. JMO. Even the rocks don't last forever.

And that is why it is home... I've been other places, and yes, everything is private, where it takes significant trespass fees to be able to hunt, but it is still as good a state as is out there for taking just about anything you desire...

As a bid from British Columbia, all ya'll have a pretty good variety of critters to hunt! Very well done and very tasteful rebuttal of a nay-sayer. Excellet work on all counts. Good hunting, Graham

Thanks for the excellent post! Factor in prairie dog, bobcat, mountain lion, pronghorn, mule deer, badger, coyote and some excellent waterfowl and upland hunting as well, and one can quickly see why the diversity of game in the Lone Star state is rather impressive. Texas is my home state and it has the finest hunting available anywhere in the world for Whitetail deer, Mule Deer, Coues Deer, Turkey, Javalina, hogs can be had in both European and farrel and crosses, Pronghorn Antelope, Quail, and dove...not counting the exotics as they are not native to Texas, but there are plenty of them. Its not all high fenced as some percieve, in fact most of it is not high fenced.
