Does anyone happen to know or know where I can find out the average dimensions of antelope? I thought this would be useful information for an upcoming antelope hunt with a scope with a mildot reticle.

Fish30114Grumulkin, I took a quick look at Encarta to confirm my thoughts-- and it did-- but an adult is about 36" high at the shoulder and weigh average of 100lbs. Although it wasn't in encarta on my laptop, I would estimate they are about 16" tall through the brisket (chest).
They've become one of my most favorite game animals. I've taken quite a few, and the big bucks are only a tiny bit larger than the does. I am looking to put one of my favorite 6.5x284's into play this fall to chase one about!

GrumulkinThanks for the info. I'll be hunting in Wyoming where I've heard the shots can be long. I'll be using a 300 Weatherby Magnum (overkill I know but it's a really sweet gun) for at least one of the two antelope and probably a 7mm/08 handgun for the other for some variety.

Fish30114I've shot a couple at 100'ish yards, but a lot more of the shots were on out there....a couple past 400--well past--I think the 300 Roy should be fine, use a lightesh pill and the flat shooting will be an asset!
I'd definitely practice at some really long range if I could. My Leica rangefinding binocular were really helpful!

We actually do some measurements at the sight of the kill. I agree with Fish. 2 of my bucks from topline to center briskit measured 16 and 17 inches deep. My first one, killed in 2004 was 15" in depth, topline to briskit base.
I hate that WY makes you wait until JULY!!!! to find out of you get drawn. Dang, I hate the waiting.
If the landowner tag comes through, I may also go to TX this year. Waiting to see.

L. David KeithLast year there were probably a 1,000 left over tags. They didn't last long, but I'd say you have a good chance at one buck and two does (I assume that's what you are drawing for). I've taken 25 over the years and I agree with Fish; they're one of my favorite North American game animals. Some of the finest meat found anywhere. .300 Wea., is rather stout but I've used it on 5 of mine. Range was 300 yards so I didn't have any meat loss but choose your bullets wisely (no Ballistic tips) although Nosler's new Accubond should be excellent (as one choice). Good luck and as mentioned: take a good rangefinder. They're invaluable. LDK
