Question:
Assume the game is elk. Assume a muzzle velocity of 3,150 and an average target distance of 300 yards. What do you want in your gun?

Please expound on any experiences you have had with either of these bullets.

Thanks

Choices:
180 grain Nosler Accubond
180 grain Swift Scirocco
180 grain Hornady Interbond

Barnes TSX or better yet the new MRX. That's what my new 300WSM will shoot.

I'll go with talentrec on the 168 TSX or the old favorite the Nosler Partition in 180 or 200gr.

If your choices were limited to the three mentioned, I'd select the 180gr Interbond. But if a 180gr NP shot equally well out of your rifle, I'd go with it.

None of the bullets specified in your poll - they are all best at non-magnum velocities. The better choice would be a 165-168 grs TSX - assuming either will shoot in your rifle.

IMHO you left out the best bullet. I had 5 one shot kills, as in drop at impact, using the 180 grain Swift A frame. Largest animal was a kudu, smallest was Jackal. Excellent bullet performance.

I would agree with Jim. The Swift A-Frame gets my vote.

You left out the best bullets, in my order of preference:
1. TBBC
2. NorthFork
3. Swift-A-Frame
4. Fail safe
5. TSX/MRX
6. Nosler partition

I am positive that out of those bullets above, one will shoot as well or better in your rifle.

IMHO, save your selection for broadside deer.

Barnes TSX, either 168 or 180. Aframe also excellent choice.

From your list I chose the Scirocco, having experience with both the AB and the Scirocco, the Swift product is a better bullet IMO.

I have found the 200 grain TBBC is a real hammer on elk sized game. It is more accurate than 180s out of both my 300s.

I've always used the TBBC 180gr and have never had the need to switch. 1 buffalo, grizzly, black bear, caribou, 3 whitetails and numerous moose and elk can't be wrong! gunsmile

I shoot the Federal Premium Vital Shok in 200 grain Nosler Partition and am really pleased with them. You see my gun, etc. on "my new gun" under the Medium Bores Forum.

I have never shot an elk. But my favorite round in 300 win Mag is a 200 grain Barnes X
(I havent tried the TSX yet) I use 72 grains of H4831 it does 2750fps and everything I have shot with it died right there including big African antelope much bigger and tougher than any elk.

Sorry, but I would not use any of those bullets.
I have killed and seen several elk killed with 300 Mags with 180 gr Nosler Partitions. Always with excellent results from 100 yards to a little over 300 yards.
I have also killed 2 elk with a 200 grain Trophy Bonded Bearclaw in a 300 Win mag. One at aorund 100 yards the other at around 300 yards. Again with excellent results.
A Premium Bullet is worth the slight extra cost
IMHO.
