I just bought a 300 RUM for an elk hunting trip coming up this fall. I am looking for an overall performing handload. I would like to get a load that is pretty accurate and have a good velocity. I am willing to give up a little of both to get a good all around performer. Anyone care to help me out? Also, is there a factory load that you could recommend?

Reloader 25 works well with 180gr bullets in my rifle. My max load is 96gr and provides 3375fps in my rifle.

My friend is into the reloading so I know little about it. What primer? What model of gun is yours?

Back up a bit to the Reloading Pages on the first screen of this forum http://www.accuratereloading.com/reload.html

Saeed has a good bit of 300 Ultra loads posted.

I would experiment with RL 25 first, on 180gr. anyway.
My 300 RUM simply loved that powder over anything else.
A close second, was IMR 7828.
RL 25...93gr.
180gr. Swift Scirocco, or A-Frame
Fed.215M primer

IMR 7828...89gr
180gr. Swift A-Frame
Fed.215M primer

If you go with a bigger bullet, try H1000...sakofan... [Smile]

That's my load too, I/m using Federal 210M primers though. .75 moa groups consistantly.

96gr was about max load too. [Wink]

Brent, all 300RUM users, seem to like the RL25 over anything else.
Retumbo hasnt panned out.
Some people like H1000, with 190gr. bullets.
check this site out.. http://www.reloadersnest.com/index.asp
good shooting..sakofan...

With 180's ny gun loves IMR 7828 with RL25 coming in second. So I would start with one of these powders. Most people I know, seem to have a little better luck with the RL25, so personally I'd start there.
