Personally, I think a personal call to your MP carries more clout.

There has never been a better time to hammer
your Liberal Members of Parliament regarding
this issue. It has turned into a liability
and many Liberal Members are looking for an
excuse (or reason) to speak out against this
useless law.

Phone, fax, email, write and sign petitions.

Exactly!

If you have a Liberal MP,then keep bugging them. They are "sensitive" to this issue now.

The petition is a great Idea, I will be forwarding it to my friends in Canada.

But KK is correct, use this opportunity to contact your MP. You can call your MP but Better yet email or write so that there is a record. To politicians, numbers count. The politicians usually like their cushy jobs and in your correspondence you can hint that if they don't toe the line neither you or your sportsman friends in his riding will vote for him/her in the next election.

(Johnny Canuck tell your friend to write, they can't ignore paper, post cards can work well, they are quick to fill out and are less expensive to send)

Our MP is Lib. He stated,non-publicly, lately that he was going to see about standing up against furthering this law and yada yada yada. He was the MP in power when they passed it, so we asked him, We appreciate the help but where were you when it all took place? ... Voting Yes to it. This year we have an election being called and that is the only reason he has changed his mind, so if enough people hassle him about "no change, no vote" it might work for us. As long as he doesn't turn around and screw us after we vote.

NB

while it is possible that he might screw you after the election, but if enough of the people in his riding contact him and tell him to get rid of the legislation and that they remind him that they WILL be watching him, unless he wants to risk a very short career as an MP he will be careful how he votes. If the vote is just after the election, you can remind him before the vote that he can be eliminated as the MP next time if he does not vote in the manner you like. They like their cushy jobs so they do listen.

I didn't mean to detract from the petition. I meant to add to it.

My MP is also a Lib, but he has been fairly sensible when I've contacted him in the past. He is openly critical of Chrtien, assuring he will never be on Cabinet. However, he is an indication of the deep divisions developing in the Libs. I'd throw them out in a second if I could, but since I can't, the best thing is to see if we can drive in the thin edge of the wedge.

The gun registry has potential, largely because our side in in the right.
