It isn't the best picture. I didn't have my camera when I shot him and had to take it back at camp.

I am very lucky to live here that is for sure. This is ram #6 for me an I shot it with a 300win and a 150gr hornady sp handload at 3160fps. The shot was about 400 yards almost strait down. I aimed right between the shoulder blades and hit it twice right betweeen both shoulders with no bullet drop at all. I had to go down around the mountain to go get him after he slid 500 yards down the mountain and over some rock ledges. The game warden was following my track in the fresh snow and couldn't follow me to the sheep it was so steep. It took him a while but he talked to me later back at camp to check licence and meat.

Nube

Nice ram and #6. I'm impressed. Any sheep is a great trophy but one you take on your own is very special.

What are the rules for establishing residency in Canada? Especially if I want to stay in California? Is buying land a possibility? I could live up there part time?

Kind off a contradiction in terms there. Can I establish residency in the US, and live here?
Maybe get a better drawing odds at one of those desert sheep?

You might be cheaper off by just hiring an outfitter and get yourself a ram that way.

Congratulations Nube!! I had sit out this year, because I shot my first ram in 2004. Of course this year I've seen several much better rams than the one I have... and none of them will be around when I hunt them next year. Razzer

How old was he? 7-8 years old?

Late season? When were you hunting? It will currently take me another 20 years or more before I draw as a non-resident Canadian (only 2 permits per year on a preference point system).

Out of curiosity, was it a draw area or open WMU? If you'd prefer, you can P.M. me the details so that I can plan 20 years out Wink

I think he was 8 years old. He is not the biggest I have but I only had one day to hunt this year. I was going to let my partner shoot him but he got about 1500 yards away from the rams and his knee started to bug him and was worried he might have troubles later on with it. He told me to go ahead and when I got to the rams I couldn't resist. I am going to get it mounted it my grizzly that I got this spring as well.
Where are you from FRansDiepstraten? I wouldn't mind talking to a veteran sheep hunter.

Nice sheep,

Almost looks like a southern Ab sheep. What is he roughly? He looks about 35" long and close to 15 inch bases. I love sheep hunting.

Veteran of two years! I came to Canada from The Netherlands about three years ago, I never hunted sheep before that. The first year (2003) I hunted sheep I just couldn't cut it. I went up Junction, but the terrain there is so incredibly rough. Last year I spent a few days in there without seeing rams. I hunted about 20 days before connecting with my first ram. So I'm not a veteran sheep hunter.... talk to me in 10 years! Wink

I'm living in Cochrane, AB

Frans, Do you know Vic Hume from there? I just ran into him this year when I got my ram and he has shot a lot from over the years. I think he said he has 10.
