I did not kill a deer this year Eeker I turned down several buck's on the ranch I guide on ( www.redforkhunts.com ) They will all be bigger next year thumb
But I did not even shoot a doe!, all of them had young fawns with them. This is very unusal at this time of year but the ranch is in a extrem drought ( we did get 6'' of rain this weekend though) and I guess they had late fawns and I did not want to seperate them just yet.
This is a first in about 22 years!! I know I did the right thing but I just dont know if I like it yet bewildered

Good job. Hunting should never be just about the kill.

I get my hunting enjoyment from guiding and have only killed a few animals for myself in the last 20 years on the ranches I guide on. That's just good management and good conservation ultimately gives the clients a better experience.

I get tags every year and spend a few days out running around on my own time but I just don't need to end the hunt with a kill.

You did the right thing.

Kyler

Shot a good 10-pt 3 yrs ago and have only shot one fork-antlered buck since then (we can legally shoot 3 bucks/yr). Last year I let my son shoot a 9-pt I had watched since August.

One of the best things about our group--if we see a buck that is mature, but isn't a true trophy or doesn't meet our standards, we let 'em walk--or let a guest shoot them if they are 6.5 y.o. or older. Oh, and by the way, we sure get lots of "payback" from our guests such as filling feeders, working on blinds, cutting firewood, trimming brush, etc.

Guys, I am probably to blame for some of Spencer's misfortune. The opening three days of Oklahoma's gun season saw Spencer guiding my Dad and I for Okie bucks on their property in Woodward county. Sunday afternoon I took a great buck that scored 158 1/8" BC. Not bad....

Here is a picture of Spencer with the buck... a high, tight racked 11 pointer. Spence, hope this is your last season without a buck for the next 20 years! And look forward to hunting with you soon!

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

You are not alone! But I, like you was in on many others good fortune. It isn't about the kill, but rather the process.

Next one will be sweeter.
