are the latter two any more or less accurate than a standard 700, anything i should know about them i am having a hard time deciding on my next deer rifle i have had plenty of 700's but like the versatility of encore, like the looks of the ruger but i know looks don't kill, and a sako or r93 keeps popping up in my mind help a guy out, i am at a serious crossroad

I've only seen one Ruger No 1 that was as accurate as my various Rem 700's. It started life as a 7mm Rem mag, was turned into a 7mm STW, and had a custom adjustment set up on the forend hanger. That allowed it to be tuned to the load, and it is a shooter! I had a chance to buy it, but waited a little too long. All the other Ruger No 1's I've messed with have had adequate, but not outstanding accuracy. I keep sticking with the Rem 700, but that Ruger is a classy looking rifle that handles nice too. Have never shot an Encore. Regards, Guy

Fats: Remingtons will probably be the most accurate. How ever the Encores can be made to shoot very well indeed. And it is a lot less expensive to buy a different barrel to change caliber than a whole rifle. Although I will have to admit that they can be very addictive and you will probably end up with at least several frames and six or seven barrels. I also have Ruger #1 & #3 to choose from but go to the Encore or Contenders more often.............Roy
