To anyone in Tx is there a place that anyone knows of where one can go hunt wild Boar? I dont mind paying but I dont want to pay over 600$ to hunt a animal that is considered a pest. I have wanted to do this for three years now but cant find a place to do it. My Deer lease in Mills county does'nt have any Boars. I would be thankful for any help.

Brian.

Check out the ads in Texas Trophy Hunters. Lots of the big ranches offer off-season hunts for wild boar for around $250. You don't have to go all the way to South Texas either. I saw one recently for a ranch in Anderson county that was pretty reasonable.

Paleohunter,
With a handle like yours, you should be hunting the Russian boar the way I do, with a spear.

I use my .375 Win all the time for Hogs it is great medicine for them. I prefer hanloaded 220 Hornadys or the 250 factory loads. The effectiveness of the Hornady,s as 2200 fps is impressive. the 250 factorys also are good. the 200's do not penetrate enough for my likeing. Even cast bullets in this cartridge work excellently. a shot a 300 + lb bar Hog with the Lyman 275449 cast soft weighing 280 gr at 1500 + fps He only went 50 yds after a Texas heats shot, penetrated 40 inches of pork thru top of the heart and ended up in the neck some where. I shot another Boar at 15 yds with a 265 gr lead bullet 1650 + fps. he took off at a run and I heard him fall. He only made it 30 yds. Good hunting

Paleohunter, there are a lot of places in Texas where you can hunt the "ROOSKIs" for considerably less than $600.

Try: www.boarcreek.com

and give Camp Cooley Ranch a call at:
(979)828-3968 Ask for Kimberly Cox, and tell her you are interested in the hunting on the ranch! The prices may have changed, but at Camp Cooley all hunts are guided, and the guide fee is $100 per day, the hogs have only a $25 trophy fee each, no limit. They also have Eland, Wildebeast, Dama Gazele, amoung other things. They have a very nice bunk house to stay in, with a complete kitchen to cook your own meals.
At Boar Creek Ranch the hunts are food and lodgeing included, and the hunts all start at noon Friday, and end at noon Sunday. The food alone is worth the price of the hunt, a great place, take your rod & reel, the fishing is great as well, and Nick Frame & his Wife Kelly, are top notch people. check them out!

RA Berry tell me where I can get a good spear with a good steel point or a good Clovis point and I damn sure give it a try.

RChapura thanks for the info on the loads. I however I am limited to the factory loads because I'm not set up to roll my own yet.

Mac D37 Thanks for the web address it looks very promising that I'll give them a call. They look like they produce good size ones on a regular bases.

PaleoHunter,
Cold Steel makes a very nice, affordable Boar Spear. They also sell the oak shaft that it is mounted on. Then head for Tennessee. You will have better luck ambushing the boars in the rougher terrain of the foothills of the Smokie Mountains. Alan Wilson's Wilderness Lodge is very accommodating for spear chuckers. Tell them Doctor Death sent you. They will probably remember me.
