Just got in from this year's elk season in northwest Colorado. We ended up with 3 elk for 4 hunters and 100% shooting opportunities. My nephew missed on the 3rd day of the season.

No trophies this year. I took a yearling bull calf on an antlerless tag. I usually look for a yearling for the outstanding meat. My brother took a big mature cow on the second day, and my father filled with a raghorn bull on the 3rd day. Lots of elk around and a good time was had by all.

In addition to the elk, we took around 3o cottontails, saw around 25 coyotes and saw lots of big mulies. Deer season was closed in that part of Colorado and all we could do was look.

So, the winter's meat is cooling nicely and the butchering, wrapping and freezing begins in the morning.
