THey are in denial in most states that they show up. But the facts are, lions, cougar, can show up any where, anytime, it is their nature!

Most game officials know of their existence.... But many folks get concerned when there is verifiable proof.....

We have had several killed here and many other states have confirmed road killed animals....

quote:
Linda Swank, a wildlife conservation officer for the Pennsylvania Game Commission, said she could confirm that there was an animal attack. However, she said she could not confirm that the animal is a mountain lion.

It's saddening that we're blaming cougars when we haven't confirmed it yet

I don't know about PA but in most NE states it's illegal to shoot a cougar as it's a protected species, even though "we don't have any here!"

Wonder what his reason to shoot at it on sight was? The article says nothing about whether his actions were legal or not.

I saw a small piece on this in a Pittsburgh paper. The game commission was "investigating" and felt if it was a lion it was one that had escaped from captivity. Several years back there was a game farm near Kane, PA. One of the animals there was a female cougar. The manager said whenever she came in heat there would be cat tracks in the snow around the property. I had a camp nearby and all the local hunters talked about cougar tracks being seen in thew snow. Hunters in that area must have vivid imaginations since they saw coyotes several years before the game commission agreed we had any in the state.

Although there are many reported sightings each year, the game commission maintains that mountain lions do not live in Pennsylvania.

I have some ocean front property in Utah I'd like to sell you.
