Why no articles about Sierra Nevada hunting?

I just read ANOTHER article about hunting white tails back east. I can't remember reading any articles in the major magazines about hunting mules and blacktails in the Sierra Nevadas, the western side here in California. Am I wrong? Anybody know of any recently?

If I am right then why is it I don't see these articles, I would think that there are enough hunters going after deer here that a magazine wouldn't be doing bad by putting in an article about it.

Just curious.

While I'm not from Cali, and haven't ever hunted the SN mountains, I agree with your sentiment. If I read one more damned article about "how to bag your buck," in Eastern/Nortern hardwoods, I'll puke.

I would love to read about some of the "other" species and areas in NA, or internationally.

Having grown up hunting that area I would love to see an article on occasion about hunting it today.

You don't see many articles on Sierra Nevada hunting, because it is illegal.

No matter how righteous it seems, and how much they deserve it,

But their IS NO SEASON on SanFrancisco/Los Angeles SUV Driving, AntiGun / AntiHunting
"Save the Whales" Yuppies and Hippies.

As soon as there is, I will gladly pay my Out Of State Hunting Fees. Maybe then, we can keep them out of Oregon!

Then we can start delousing our Own State of these Left Wing 'Liberal' idiots that are ruining the state of Oregon. [Razz] [Cool] [Roll Eyes]

Hey Sea, what do you mean by "illeagal" hunting in the Sierra's? I have hunted several times in the X12 & X9a zones which are on the back side of the Sierra's?
I think hunting is so poor in most of the state that many hunters are not coming here to hunt, unless it's for coastal blacktails, so no one writes much about it.

Thanks MtnHtr!! I will look and see if I can find it on newstands. Locally I have very few hunting magazines to choose from, don't ask me why, but the stores don't seemt o carrythem. the SaveMart closest to my house doesn't have ANY gun or hunting magazines. Of course they don't sell hard liquor either, no gun mags and no hard liquor sounds suspicious to me. :-)

Fred, Sea was talking about "other game seasons" I think. And Sea, if they open those seasons up don't discount Fresno as prime hunting area. Out of ALL the counties in California, Fresno was the only one that decided to go along with the state attorney generals suggestion that CCW holders only be allowed to carry guns CURRENTLY on the list of handguns approved for sale in California. My grandfather has had a CCW for 25+ years and had to go buy a new pistol because his was not on the list.

Fred, I was making a joke about you can't hunt the dam hippies and yuppies that make all the game laws that are choking our sport and taking it away from us, so they can sit at home and feel " liberal".

Dago,

Here's a link to the online version of California Game & Fish. They put various articles from the print version up. I do quite a bit of work for the Rocky Mountain Game & Fish issue. The article there now on the world-record P&Y Coues deer is mine. -TONY

Hey Seafire, aren't you a transplant from the east coast yourself?
How do you know that the native Oregon residents don't feel the same way about you?
Oregon has more hippies and communes than California, at least California has left that behind and moved on to ?????????? [Eek!]

I drew a tag for X-9b and was scouting up there last week. As long as work does not get in the way, I will be heading out in September for a hunt. I have never hunted the area, but have hiked it and fished it a lot. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Marsh,

Yeah I am an east coast and midwest transplant. However don't mistake a person living in Oregon making fun of California, as a slam against the state. California is an example of a state one can love, but hate the dam government it has and some of the idiots who make up these laws.
I hate Portland, Eugene and Salem Yuppies with as much passion as I do the San Fran/ LA crowd.

If you have read enough of my posts, you will also know I really have a hate for the fu--king hippies.!!!! The 60s was 30+ yrs ago, these people need to get a life. And yeah, most of the ones that flocked to Oregon in the 1960s are still here, smoking dope, don't have a clue what a barber is, or a bathtub: spend all their time cheating and milking the welfare system and making illegal drugs. Personally I wish Oregon would put a season on them. Every thing that is fucked up about this who country can be blamed on the dam hippies. I was that generation but never bought into all of that crap ( well maybe had a soft spot for free love in those days, but what any red blooded horny college guy wouldn't?)

It is funny, when I moved to Southern Oregon and people found out I was not from California, they were Shocked! " Why did you move here if you were not from California?" was the common response.

I started to ask the locals that displayed so much beligerence to Californians of why they did not like them. The most common answer was " Why did you think I left there in 19XX?" So I would think " oh, YOU were the last good one across the state line, and everyone after you is a jerk right?"

So most of the hatred for California by Oregon residents is really from California transplants, from what I have seen. Sort of like I have noticed with anti smokers ( I have never smoked so I have no side on this issue) the most beligerent are ex smokers.

Not on here to piss off anyone or screw with anyone, so I hope you take it all in humors name.
And If you ever want to come up and hunt this way, give me an email and I will more than be happy to have a spot at my camp fire for you!
We are all fellow hunters Marsh!! [Razz] [Roll Eyes] [Cool]

I have got to take a run with Seafire about CA. I spent the first 17 years of my life just south of San Fran and then got the hell out! I do not think there is enough money to ever get me back out that way to live.

You make an interesting point. With all the eviromental wacko's and anti-gun sentiment yall have, I don't even THINK of California and hunting at the same time. Guess most of the rag writers dont either.

duckear:

I have to compliment that quote at the bottom of your posts!

I also find it humorous that most of the gun mags are based out of California and were owned by Peterson Publishing.

California, does have some good game opportunities, Hogs, Bears, and I have seen some awesome mule deer down that way going to my folks place at Lake Tahoe: and there are a lot of good people in California also.

Oregon has a lot that I would love to see shipped out of here. However instead of sending them south, I would like to see them sent about a 100 miles west of Oregon or so. [Razz] [Roll Eyes]

Having lived all over the US, North Carolina, Kansas, Oregon, and California, I always am amazed at how much time the rest of the US spends wondering or watching TV regarding CA. I see rapists, perverts, left wingers, democrats, environmentalists, wacko's, gays, etc, everywhere, not just CA....that is the laughable part, at least we arent in denial here. Regarding not wanting to move here, please keep that sentement, I dont want you here. Finally, having been raised in rural northern CA, we arent any different than good ole boys anywhere else in the US. I will say it again, it is the large cities in the United States that bring out the best in wacko's, liberals, perverts, and all the other "detached" people from our rural environment. That's why those A H's spend all their time trying to deprive me and you of our rights. The mear "fact" that democrats are constantly trying to take another one of our "rights, or freedoms" away should be enough to swing the bulk of the population to vote republican, but, as we all know, the democratic party is the party of handouts, so which one of you has your hand out for freebies?

I agree with that. A good friend of mine I met while living in Colorado in the early 90's was from North CA and was from a logging family. He could hang with any of the good ol boys around here. I loved his bumper sticker on his truck "Earth First, Log the Other Planets Later"

Excellent reply, I'm not a cal native I just happen to be stuck here for now! I take no offense, your analogy, of non-smokers is a good one, you could add, non-drinking alcoholics, born-again christians,yada-yada-yada, you know what I mean.
The biggest problem with California is where the Majority of the Voteing public is concentrated, in the LA basin and SF Bay area.
I'd like to see the "Big One" [Earth Quake] come soon! This state needs a good purging! [Eek!] [Wink]

Dago, I hear you. I just got back from a bowhunt on the eastern Sierras. A16 zone. No joy for my partner and me but two guys in the campground stuck two bucks on the opener Saturday.

We're filming the hunt and will also be filming as much as we can on California hog and deer hunts for release.

For a quick fix, try our blacktail and muley forums. Bunch of Californians in there with great stories and pics.

Your offer is most generous and down right kind.
Maybe someday it'll happen.
While I'm not a native here in this state. I'm about as close as you can get. Been here since the early 50's and watched the hunting and fishing deteriate to it's present situation, but at least I can say I wasn't born here.
