I'm not sure this is the right place. I will try anyway.

Last year I bought 7 Stealth Cam trail cameras. Every single time I check them, the night time pictures SUCK. Badly. They are virtually useless.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Thanks.

Try to sell them and get you a few Moultrie I-40's. I love mine.

After extensively researching game cameras, I also bought Moutrie I40s. One is strapped to the tree in the front yard, and my 4 year old daughter have been running around in front of it to try it out this afternoon. If my experience is like most, the results should be good. Will know tomorrow.

After reading many reviews, the Moultries and Cuddebacks seemed the only good choices, and the Moultries were much cheaper.

I have Cuddes NF and Reconyx RC60 also no flash.

The Reconyx has a system that doesn´t gives them away because there is no red glow when the picture is taken.

I recomend you buying one of these Reconyx.

My I-60 works great, the camera that is. The mount I had it gone got knocked down, the camera took hundreds of pics of the grass CRYBABY The only damage is half of the display can't be read. Have to bring the instruction book w/ me Mad everytime I touch it since I can't read what the display says.

The problem I've got now is that the plastic case seems to be dry rotting. First the hinge on top broke. A few weeks ago I moved it and when I tightened the strap, one of the loops the strap goes through broke off. Figured out how to make it work but not happy about the quality of the case.

I have now taken the camera off the tree and reviewed the results. The photos from the I40 are great. The only apparent problem is the trigger speed. It seems to take 6-8 seconds for the camera to trigger after detecting movement. I was only barely catching the walkers and joggers. No photos of passing cars were taken. The camera was at a 45 degree angle to the street.

larry,

We need some more details before we can diagnose the problem. What do you mean by SUCK? Are they dark, blurry, missing the game, etc.? Maybe you could post a few.

You can find some pretty good information on many of the popular trailcams at ChasingGame.Com - you may want to poke around there first.

They are too dark.

I have no idea how to post pictures. I will see if my assistant can do it.

OK. What kind of distance are you expecting, is it an IR flash or regular white flash and what particular model would also help.

You should spend some time on that link in my above post and I'd bet you'll find some answers. Go to the "HOME" page on that site and you'll also see extensive reviews that should include your model. That site does a lot of testing on many models and I have come to trust their findings.

I am going to get my assistant to try and post a picture.

I would estimate it is about 5 yards. I believe this camera does both infrared and flash. I didn't see a model number.

Those pictures suck!

OK, we agree, now what? If you are sure that the batteries are good and the flash isn't covered then it's back to basics:

1. Read manual - I heard some of the cheap ($30) StealthCams have a flash range of 10 ft. If so, then maybe your pics are what you should expect.

2. If still no good, you should call their customer service. I haven't heard good things about them, so good luck.

From my experience, there are few bargains with trailcams - you get what you pay for. Wish I could be of more help.

These were not cheap. I think I paid $170 each for them. I told the guy at Bass Pro that I wanted the best they had.

Batteries were good and the flash wasn't covered.

I am guessing these cameras just suck. But I have never used any before.

Also, I think I just found the model number. STC-14301R

I wouldn't get too down about the cams, as the reviews I see at the website I suggested don't show it to be too bad. Click HERE to take you right to the Stealth Cam reviews, then scroll down to the 1430IR review. They have good sample pictures that they took during testing.

I still think it's going to take some work to get through to their customer service, but at $170 I wouldn't be happy either. If they are all like this then there may have been a bad batch or a "firmware" upgrade required.

Good luck.

I may have paid more as the list price on their website is something like $335 each.

They are all like this.
