I'm headed to the Waco, TX area for a hunt with a good friend and I want to know if there are any really good opportunities for anything in the Waco area. I'm pretty open minded, so ANYTHING I can hunt with a bow in the Waco area is okay by me. Hogs, exotics, anything, just let me know!!!! Also, good restaurants, nightclubs, etc... It's my first time in the Lone-Star State. thanks, Don Martin www.EndlessSafari.com

nearly all the land in Texas is privately owned, so hunting is pretty much a "pay as you go" type of thing. I imagine the Waco area is pretty much overrun with wild hogs (mostly feral, some feral/Russian cross)... if your friend could find a co-operative land owner that wants them thinned out, you might get to hunt em for free... one good thing, you can hunt them at night, with spotlights... it's a little easier to find them, and it's usually quite a bit cooler then, as well. I know there's a lot of hog hunting that goes on down around San Saba... not too far from there... ..there's any number of really good restaurants around, you shouldn't have any trouble finding something... there's a good barbeque place called the Salt Lick just south of Austin.. a pretty good distance from Waco, but I don't know how much running around you plan on doing... it would be as close to come up to the DFW area... LOTS of things to do up here. .....good luck with your hunt, and welcome to Texas... hope you have fun.

I know they some ranches around Waco do exotic hunts. Various sheep, goats and some pigs. One of the best eating joints there is "Heitmillers" (sp). Try the chicken-fried steak and 'mountain oysters' with cream gravy.

Don, When are you going to be around Waco? I have access to a couple areas (One place 300 ac. and a newly acquired area of 15k acres) and some friends there as well. I am in Long Beach, CA right now and fly to Anchorage later this morning and will be home next weekend. Shoot me an email and I will see what I can do to help. Thanks everyone for their replies and emails. I really appreciate the generosity of the AR regulars. I leave for AK on Tuesday, the 15th for my regular "guide duty" in the Mulchatna area. But I think I have enough leads to round out our October hunt. Thanks again everyone and if you have any other info, just post it here or email me and I'll get it in October when I get back from Alaska. Don Martin www.EndlessSafari.com
