I see Gov. Brown signed the "Extreme Protection Law". That's scary you don't even have to be present to defend yourself if someone files a petition against you.

Here is the link to Snope's take on this.\

http://www.snopes.com/oregon-gun-confiscation/

Whether Snope's is totally believable is still up for debate.

Have you ever found them to be incorrect?

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

No, I haven't Personally, but there are quite a few people that do question Snope's veracity and bias on various issues.

It has cropped in the PF many times during Obama's administration that Snope's will put their own slant on issues.

There are websites showing errors by Snopes but I haven't checked their authenticity with Snopes.

So what does that have to do with the OP's subject?

It will be interesting to see how long the law stands up. I'm not an attorney but doesn't the constitution guarantee the right to face your accusers and the right to representation?

Yes it does in criminal actions. I have not read the law but the snopes summary shows it is some type of hybrid civil action. Generally Protective Orders are CIVIL actions filed by another party (not the state). Since they are initially reviewed by a judge ex parte you don't even learn of the issue unless the judge makes a finding that you pose an imminent threat. Law enforcement will then serve you notice of a hearing (here in MT must be heard within 20 days). You will be present, but representing yourself unless you can afford a good lawyer. According to the summary, the respondent must actually petition the court within 30 days for a hearing. Will be interesting to see how this withstands challenges.

Federal law takes president over state law as a rule. Federal confiscation in drug laws includes all monies, vehicle used in the crime, and confiscated drugs and firearms..These can be challenged in court, therefore a citizen has the right to challenge such action in state or federal court..

the worst part of our legal system is we have to take them to court at our expense as a rule. The laws themselves are that bad, its the execution by overjealous law enforcement officers in many cases. Also these laws in many cases are an over reaction of lawyers and liberal judges that tend to use the law to their own ajendas, in other words a broken court system that's feeding on way too many folks these days..
