Those of us that have lived here all of our lives have probably seen the best drawing years, quality is no doubt better, but chances of going less. Might be time for a resident point system. bewildered

As a protest to the G&F about 10 of us bought doe/fawn tags, same area, we all drew, but agreed not to fill them. They just keep issuing tags to balance the budget. Seen it before, then along comes a normal winter and between winter kill and over hunting, it takes years to recover.

***How is buying all those tags going to do anything as a protest if the G&F isn't advised that you aren't going to fill them? Maybe you should all get together with a letter to them and send the tags back with it to get your message across. This is intended as a serious comment, so please take it that way!

I am happy for anyone that draws a tag anywhere. Lora and I just weren't lucky in the draw. Haven't had a chance to hunt antelope since 1997 and was hoping to get to go again before I get too old or out of shape to enjoy it.

Congratulations to all the folks that drew tags, Best Of Luck on your hunts.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

Sending it back only means they can and will sell it again. Their goals as stated in the public meetings is to reduce deprivation on farm land and to appease land owners, many of whom do not allow access yet turn in claims. So in my antelope area the G&F goal is to basically wipe out the herd, or drastically diminish its numbers. By 10 of us buying 20 or more doe/fawn tags, and the objective/goal being to kill at least or get a 95% kill of 200 tags, that goal can be disrupted. Letters have been sent, and same being said at public meetings. All falling on deaf ears.

By not buying the tags, more than likely leftover tags will go to first come first served hunters, many being nonresidents, which is also more money for the G&F, also a goal of the G&F as they know many locals won't buy all the tags or can't. Hopefully we will grow the numbers next year. In stead of 10 maybe 20 or 30. Selling tags and shifting tag numbers from one area to another is a "rob peter" to "pay paul" scenario they have adopted in recent years. The G&F would rather sell all the tags to nonresidents, they know nonresidents come to kill. I see it every year, trailers stacked with does and fawns, both deer and antelope, simply gutted and strapped down on a trailer and stacked like cord wood, and it also gives more money to waste and mismanage. And very little political pressure from nonresidents.

You would not believe how many times I have seen 15 to 20 mule deer does or antelope does on a single trailer. A trip by any motel in this area during rifle season and you will see some extreme kills.

You can not have bucks to hunt if you don't have does. An example, area 127, you used to be able to buy an any deer tag, then you could buy up to 4 doe fawn tags. Guess what, you can do an evening drive and some times not even see a dozen deer. Draw the tag, hunt it on horse back, mule in my case, and you would be lucky to see a single 4 point bigger than 24" in a full days hunting.

Basically if you print and sell the tags, they will come.

They can't resell a tag that has been issued to someone else, but I can see where they might just up the quota to compensate for those tags not being used if they know of the plan, so I guess I see your point. I also can't disagree with anything you've said even though I'm a nonresident. I see the same shit in the campground I stay in sometimes or when I go there to take a shower. Most of the people in the campground are NRs and they shoot anything that moves to the point where I'd be embarrassed to hang some of the dog size animals they put on the game poles! It's a damn shame and I don't know of any way to stop it, so maybe you have a legitimate way to at least slow it down. Thanks for the response to my question!

Legistine actu quod scripsi?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.
