I found a shed mule deer horn in west TX and was just curious if scoring a mule deer antler is different from a whitetail antler and if so, how? just a point of curiousity. thanks

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.

I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

It is a bit different from a whiteail, but not much. I'll try and describe how you would score one side of a rack with 5 pts (eye guard and two forks) using the standard P&Y/B&C method.

1) measure the main beam from base to tip
2) measue eye guard from top of main beam ti point tip
3) measure second point from top of main beam to point tip
4) measure the 3rd point (fork) from "split" to the tip (imagine horizontal line)
5) repeat steps 3 & 4 for the remaining two points
6) next measure circumference at smallest point between burr and first point.
7) next measure circumference at smallest point between first and second point.
8) then measure circumference at smallest point between main beam and third point.
9) finally measure circumference at smallest point between second and fourth point.
10) Total up all measurements for gross score.

Hope this helps. You could also check out this link for more info.

Thanks gentlemen. It's really not a big shed I was just curious. I'll put the tape to it.
