If i shoot a moose whit a 577 T-REX and a 750 grains solid bullet. Then the hole are going to be the same as the bullet diameter because the bullet dont leave much energy and go right throw the animal whit much energy left.
But if i shoot a moose in the shoulder and hit bone whit a 750 grains woodleigh soft nose bullet at 2500 f/s. Then the bullet expand to a very big diameter and leave much energy in the animal. Then i think the hole gets very big. Because the bullet stops up in the animal and leave all 11 000 foot pounds of energy.
I have shoot mooses whit a 7 mm remington magnum. And the bullet have expand to 14-15 mm diameter, but the hole in the shoulder have been about 30-35 mm in diameter.
What do you think guys....?

God Bless and Shoot Straight
But I don't second the the .577 would make the moose go apart! I don't know how big the moose you are shooting - and of course if you shoot calfs only in Skaane or other southern parts of sweden I guess the .577 would have some Overkill! But if you shot a nothern bull - well I don't think the hole wouldn't be that big!
Let me try to exsplain!
I was shot a roe bock on the shoulder with a 300 grains partiton .378 wea travelling app. 850 m/s ~ 2800 fps. Yes the exit wound wasn't preatty - but I have seen them worse with Norma factory loads in .30-06 and 6,5x55 - let alone varmint bullets in .22-250 or .243 win!
I've shoot capa buffalow with .500 NE and 570 grains Woodleig softs - and the exit wound (not all of the exited!) wasn't big only twice the bullet diameter!
I've seen plenty plains game (ranging from duicker to eland) shot with .378 wea and .416Rigby - and even a broad side shot on a black wilderbeast didn't make unethical exit wound!
My point is that a moose is a preatty big animal, the .577 is hurge and isn't intented for moose - but the sure will be meat for the freezer if you shot one!
I myself thoe would bring me .300 win with 200 grains bearclaw if I ever got the oppotunity to go to sweden for moose hunting!

Mads (plain and simple!)
Well
