I'm looking at buy a new gun case for and up coming hunting trip. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Cabelas Bullet-Proof Gun Case (Starlight)

or a SKB.

I've never used either. Which one do you think is a better case? And before Harry tells me how good a Tuff Pack is, I'm not spending $300 for a gun case.

I actually have both.

For hunting guns I prefer the SKB. The SKB uses a keylock system which is really convienient. Quality is good and they work really well when traveling.

For tactical type rifles, the Starlight is the best. Be sure to get the wheels and end handles if weight is an issue. Polyethylene foam internals are the best! Best to get it from the OEM: New Innovative Products, Inc. in Pine Level, NC. More options, good customer service.

I just went through this and went with the starlight. While the SKB, is a good case, I feel the Starlight is better. Why wouldn't I want my hunting guns to get the same protection as my tactical rifles? This is a lifetime investment, get the starlight. The lock system is better, skb's use cheap luggage loks that are guaranteed to be replaced but they do fall off and get knocked off. The starlight uses 4 padlocks of your choice. The starlight is just an all-around better case in my opinion.
By the way, DMCI I like your setup. What kind of rifle is that, a TRG?

Rifle is a M40A3 clone, with a few little changes reflecting my preferences. Caliber is .308. Scope is USO M40 T100 with Badger Rings. Features include Lilja 1 in 11, three groove, McMillan A4 stock, Jewel 1# Trigger, DD Ross Bottom Metal, etc.

Get the Starlight. Better made than SKB.

I have read that the Starlight cases are the ones that certain Spec Ops folks specify and I saw a review in Accurate Rifle or Precision Shooting that impressed me favorably. However, last fall, while returning from Montana, the UAL ticket clerk in Missoula volunteered that he'd never seen one of the Cabelas aluminum "Bullet Proof cases fail. He added that that was the rifle case he used as well. They are heavy 'tho.

I have SKBs and love them. There is nothing, I repeat nothing, that an airline can do to harm them or their contents. Last I heard, the military was using SKBs for their "special" weapons and tactical gear.
