For game cameras that use an SD memory card, can you take the memory card out of the game camera and look at the photos by placing the memory card in a digital camera or do you need to take the game camera in from the field and hook it up to a TV or computer to see the photos? Basically I am asking if there is any way to view the photos on a game camera in the field. UPDATE: Now I am in the digital scouting crowd. I went to the Bass Pro Shop that opened last weekend around the corner from my house. Yes that is going to be disasterous to my bank account. I bought the Stealth Cam 1230IR which was on sale. It looks like a robust unit and has IR illumination for night shooting. It was tested with no memory card and worked fine. The images played back on my TV. Then I took the 1 gig SD memory card out of my digital camera after formatting it. The SD card was put in the Stealth Cam and tested again. No problems. It started taking photos and counting them on the LCD screen on the front of the camera. I again hooked it up to the TV and was able to see the photos stored on the SD card. Then I took the SD card out of the Stealth Cam game camera and put it back in the Nikon Cool Pix L4 digital camera. After turning the camera on all the images were there and could be seen just fine. The camera even cleared up the fuzzy ones. So now I can set the Stealth Cam up at the lease and be able to see the photos by using my digital camera in the field. No need to take the camera or chip back home to use a TV or computer. Of course I will get a second memory card and swap them out so I can bring the card back home and save the photos I want on my computer. I just wanted to be able to view the photos while still in camp. Elephant Hunter, Double Rifle Shooter Society, NRA Lifetime Member, Ten Safaris, in RSA, Namibia, Zimbabwe

I am not familiar with the SD memory card, but I have 2 Camtrakkers that have view finders on the cameras. The key word there is "camera". Most of these so called game cameras don't even have a "camera" in them. Camtrakker uses a Sony digital camera which can be taken out an used as a camera too.

you can just view the images on the card no need to bring in the whole unit. VERITAS ODIUM PARIT

RM007, Where where those pics taken? The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

RM007 - So you took the memory chip out of the game camera and put it in your digital camera to look at the photos? Elephant Hunter, Double Rifle Shooter Society, NRA Lifetime Member, Ten Safaris, in RSA, Namibia, Zimbabwe

Muletrain Yes I had several extra memory chips. We would slip into bait area swap chips and get out of the area. That way we caused as little disturbance as possible and could spend as much time as we wanted looking at pics Perception is reality regardless the truth!
