Victor is a suburb of Jackson Wy only on the Idaho side. Property prices have risen and so has the cost of living. Hunting and fishing in the area is very good.

Are there bears in this area? Would one need to take the same precautions camping as in the Yellowstone area?

Great area if you like smaller towns. Cost-of-living is going up some, with spillover from Jackson. Half hour to Rexburg or one hour to Idaho Falls for bigger town stuff. Great OTC deer and elk hunting, bird hunting for both forest and sharptail grouse, fishing in both the Teton River and South Fork of the Snake. You do have to take normal bear precautions when hunting or camping, and there are quite a few wolves along that corridor of mountains. Buy a tag! Five months of down hill skiing, snowmobiling, or telemarking up on Teton Pass. If its a good job, it would sure be a great place to try.

I once knew a mormon missionary from Victor,,and while he was out on his mission here in Louisiana,,his folks traded thier place in Victor for a much larger place (land) over in "THE HOLE",,as he called it.It affected him so deeply,,that the telling of the tale brought him to tears,,,it was the place his great, great, settled when they came west.I sure hope I never have to witness a sobing mormon missionary again,,I'm not built for that stuff!!!!!!!! Victor is a great area. Most of the Jackson service and municipal workers live there. It has outstanding access to everything you want for hunting and fishing in the rockies, yet still maintains a small town atmosphere. The down side to Idaho vs. Wyoming is state income tax and much shorter big game seasons. You are only an hour from the "big city" in Idaho Falls for shopping and medical needs, and within a 5 minute / half hour +/- for great fishing. We are talking the Teton River, the South Fork of the Snake, the Henry's Fork, Hebgon Lake for gulpers, etc. The area was over built before the recession, so now is a great time to buy. The law enforcement is OK, limited by budget, but the area has very low crime. Some people complain about the education, so many Jackson workers pay to have their kids go to school in Jackson. The drive to Jackson over Teton Pass is 30-45 minutes, but the pass can be a problem at times do to road conditions, snow/ice/visibility. It truley is one of the best small towns to live in in the Rocky Mountain West. "There are worse memorials to a life well-lived than a pair of elephant tusks." Robert Ruark

If you love the outdoors then the Victor/Driggs area is pretty close to heaven. Great hunting right out your door basically, just a few minutes to the south fork of the Snake River for some of the best trout fishing in the west. You would love it! Dick

Arthur, How do you handle real winters? That issue has sent more folks packing after one winter in this part of the US. Most wives don't handle it well...Married? It does get a bit nippy for about 7 months out of the year.... JMO, Dutch. Life's too short to hunt with an ugly dog.
