I'm looking into guided hunts for the upcoming years and am open to hunting different animals outside the norm. Caribou, Moose, Bears (any), Mule Deer, etc.

If you have photos from your hunt I'd love to see them

Pronghorn antelope, bar none.

If I had unlimited time and was lucky enough with the draw, I'd hunt pronghorns in every state every year.

They can see a long ways, challenging to judge, and just a ton of fun.

I have taken 3 bucks mostly as a kid, and about 8 or 9 does and fawns mostly as an adult.

Building antelope points right now for all the western states while we are in Germany.

When I lived in the lower 48 it was mule deer. Now I'd have to say caribou. Not because caribou are particularly hard to hunt. They are not. But because of the terrain in which they reside.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." My favorite is Pronghorn. We always make it a family hunt. We stay up late at night, start later in the morning, cover lots of country and see a lot of animals.

Alaska Yukon moose and Kodiak brown bear. The other hunts are fun, but these two are epic adventures that provide memories for a lifetime. Do them as young as possible.

For me my top 3:

Polar Bear
Mountain Goat
Black Bear but only by hounds

Since PB is off the table due to my fellow Americans.

Mountain Goat
Black Bear/hounds
Snowcock

As long as it's not Whitetail Deer, Turkey or Largemouth Bass, I will support your decision!

I guess I would give another vote to Antelope (Pronghorn). They're a blast to hunt.

However, I really like elk hunting too. Probably becuase I get to use my medium bores.

guess it depends on what type of adventure you're looking for.

i'd love to go hunt lion, coues deer, goat, sheep, free range audad, moose, big bears, you name it....

antelope are a ton of fun and can pretty easily be done DIY, especially in wyoming. been doing that every 2 years since 2010.

my toughest NA hunt yet has been mule deer. 8 days and ~70 miles of boot leather to find one mature buck. it kicked my ass, but it's also one of my most memorable hunts and i'm sure will stay that way.

our past experiences, age, physical condition, budget, will seem to determine what you'll be into next.

my pops retired last year and is getting as much hunting in as he can. i found him a semi-guided archery treestand elk hunt in CO for this year, and he has a 2nd rifle guided mule deer hunt coming up in late october. i'll be his pack mule/cameraman for those hunts, and we may DIY wyoming mule deer this year as well. he'll probably book a spring archery black bear hunt for '18, and whatever else he decides he needs to do.

Favorite overall? Elk in the rut
Mule Deer #2
Antelope #3 overall, but #1 for most fun hunt.

Sheep and mountain goat are special, but you can't hunt them often without a large bank account.

For shear, holy smokes, did that just happen excitement, elk in the rut with archery equipment.

Buglemeintoday,

A wilderness moose hunt is hard to beat. I was fortunate enough to live in AK for 22 years in an area with good moose numbers and trophy quality. Calling in a 1500 lb animals is a thrill and moose hunting is really the only thing I still miss about AK. I think if I lived somewhere I could hunt the elk rut with a rifle on private land elk could be as good.

For pure fun, Pronghorn. For challenge, mature mule deer. For pure rush, wild pheasants.

Elk are something to do when you have some down time. Smiler

And most hunts are good-- but can be different experiences. For example a spot and stalk or dog bear hunt is much different from sitting over a bait. And spot and stalk whitetail hunt is much different than sitting a stand over beans or a feeder. The difference of enjoy-ability really depends on how experienced a hunter is, as to what really pushes his buttons.

If I were younger and more fit, Number one would be a mountain lion on dry ground with horses and hounds. I truly enjoyed it when I still was able to do it.

Number two would be a javelina, the only wild animal I'm naive enough to believe I'm smarter than. I loved glassing them up and stalking to within a few yards and watching them before shooting one with a rifle or bow. My stalking days are over, though.

Today, my age and health limits me to sitting above a trail near my cabin and waiting for an elk to come along.

My thoughts exactly, although trophy Alaskan moose would be as good as Yukon to me.

Sitka black tail deer
Grizzly bear
Mountain goat

Every year these are the hunts I get excited about. The deer are just a fun hunt, high success, no pressure, cheap.
Grizzly, well gee it's about the apex of animals to go up against. Everyone of them is different, very little pattern to them, fast, sharp, dangerous, just an amazing rush.

My Farewell Burn Moose and Cold Bay Brown Bear were special. The years of Whitailes and Mulies all challangies in themselves, but my passion for years is Elk. I consider any Elk a trophy and always will simply because of where they live and what you go through to succeed in their habitats. Good Shooting.

Another vote for the pronghorn.
A fun hunt that you don't have to be a doctor or lawyer to afford nor an Olympic triathlon contender to participate in.

The meat is delicious (if properly cared for.)

Pronghorn are usually hunted in mild weather.

They are active during the daytime, not just at dawn and dusk.

Moose is my ultimate 'bucket list' hunt but I'll probably never get the chance to go for one.

I did get the chance back in 1996 to do a Moose & Woodland Caribou hunt on Newfoundland. It was a fun hunt and real adventure.

I just happen to like pronghorn for the very reasons you listed.

I am amazed at all of the Pronghorn fans. Would have never of guessed there was so many interested in hunting them.

When I lived in Casper WY they were everywhere. I heard a local complain that the meat tasted like Sage and that was about all I had heard.

I do love elk hunting. Having never done some of these other hunts (Mule deer included), glad to see these responses to the thread.
