Well I've finally scored my first pigs since moving to the Northern Territory. After waiting since christmas for the paddocks to dry out and the spear grass to get burnt off (it grows tall, about 6-7ft),I downed three on my maiden trip to a new property. I also found a new target for my 22-250 Ackley, its called the agile wallaby and this property has hundreds of them, now where did I put that spotlight.........

Bakes,

Do you guys eat the pigs or are the considered varmints?

They have something here called a "wallaby darned" in the Outback Steakhouse. Peach juice and vodka or some such stuff... yechhh!

Congrats on getting established in your new digs. Here in Ohio most farms are 40-80 acres. Not much shooting in folk's back yards.

People do eat wild pig here, not me but! In New South Wales and Queensland catching pigs for the export markit has become quite a big industry. The pigs mainly go to Germany. Its become so big, that now the industry is regulated by the state goverments, you have to be accredited and you vehicle has to meet certin standards to sell your catch to the chiller.
I'm going back to the property on monday and I'm taking a young marine that I met tonight. He said he was into "huntin an stuff" and only wants to tag along but I think I have a shotgun I can lend him.

Hi Bakes,
Have you seen any sign of waterbuffalo or scrub bulls yet?

Hey Nick
A big bull buff was cleaned up by a truck, 500m from the base turn off about two weeks ago, nice horns to. How'd you go with Tony? have you called him yet? He's guiding a hunter from Tasmania after buff this weekend, so they are around. Tony was returning from a fishing trip last week and came across a big bull buff in the middle of the track. He was standing between the edge and the centre of the track. One horn went over the centre line of the track and the other was in the scrub, a big bull!
