Hello.
Finally I bought my first drilling. It was really much more expensive than expected, but I hope it will worth it :-)
I´m attaching you some pics for your enjoyment (hope so)

Best regards.

My wife and I both have Sauer 3000 Drillings, 12x12x30-06, with scopes in claw mounts.

They handle as shotguns better than most quail guns.
The rifle barrels are very accurate as well.

You may think you paid too much today, but as you hunt with it, you will soon realize that it is a fine hunting gun, and worth every penny paid.

Well...get crackin! I want to see the new drilling. Wink dancing

I have two Sauer 3000 drillings, a mid 1960s in 12/12/30-06 and an earlier one from the late 1950s in 16/16/6.5X57R. Neither is the Luxus version, however. I did own a Lexus in 12ga and 8X57JRS, but I sold it, as it didn't fit me quite right, and I missed easy wing shots. It was a beautiful gun.

I'm anxious to see your new drilling! Cool You are obviously a man of exceptional taste. Wink

Very pretty gun in a great combination. My Fortuna is also a 16-gauge over 7x65R and it is very versatile.

I don't have a good feel for what it is worth, but given the condition and quality, the price does not seem to be out of line. I would not worry too much about what other people think the gun is worth. It is a really nice drilling, and if you are happy that it is yours, that is what really matters.

Looking at the condition it is in, the fact that it is the Delux model, and already has claw mounts [around $1500 US just for the mounts] and a variable scope I think you did fine.

In the USA the 12x12x30-06 would be more popular but in Europe I imagine that the 12x12x7x65R would be more desirable.

Nice looking Drilling.

In the chamberings and with the scope and mounts, I feel it was worth what you paid. I sold my 12/12/8X57JRS for almost $4,000.00 without a scope and mounts. It makes yours worth the extra $1,000.00 for sure. Wink

You have a beautiful drilling. Cool

Thank you very much for your comments.
I also think it worth 5000$ and even more, just to hold it, worth the money Cool
The problem is women are not usually appreciating things same way as we men do Big Grin
The gauge is not 12 but 16/70, I used this gauge for long years, and I think is really nice and you can hunt as much as you can with a 12/70.
What I never did before and I´m planning to do now is to shoot quails with a 16/70 gauge and a scope on it Wink
I will try at least once and let you know popcorn
after hunting quails and rabbits with a scope Buff will be nothig difficult Cool

Best regards

Nice gun! I recently aquired a similar one, engraving & all in 7x57-16. I actually like the 16 ga drillings more than the 12's. the 12's make them bulkier. I also have a 20, but I still love the 16's. You can load them down to 20 ga loads (7/8 oz) or up to moderate 12's (1 1/4 oz)for turkeys, ducks etc. and they are still streamlined in the receivers. Enjoy it, and start looking around for another one Smiler.

I' too, prefer the 16ga drillings for their Classic chambering and trimmer feel. The 16ga is again being recognized as a wonderful upland gun. My favorite SXS is an older Robust No.4 in 16ga 25" IC/MOD. It is beat up and well worn from many years of chuckar partridge and quail hunting.

I see many 16ga SXS guns going for premiums over their 12ga counterparts.

I prefer my Drillings and combo guns in either 12 or 20ga, because shells are so much easier to find here in the USA.

When it comes to "killing power" there is nothing short about the 16ga.

The Sauer 3000, even in 12 ga, is one of the best handling of all the drillings I have seen.

For those of you looking for a good Drilling the Colt and Weatherby Drillings are the same as the Sauer 3000, with the stock Americanized a little.

I have shot several birds with my Drillings and Double Rifle Drillings with the scope attached.

Several turkeys, quail, ducks, grouse, as well as rabbits and squirrels. None of the birds were flying however.

My nephew killed a turkey at over 40 yards with a scope attached. He has also taken 2 of them as well as squirrels and other birds with a red dot sight on his 308/20ga Combo Gun.

Try shooting a round of sporting clays with the scope & let us know how you come out Smiler

I live in the USA, and i don't see the big deal about finding 16ga. ammo... Every place i go has at least a few boxes forsale, even Walmart. But once i find a load that my gun likes, i order a bunch of "that" ammo in for it. I get my ammo at a better price that way too...

One time when i was bored, i did come up with a couple slide in tubes for my 16ga. drilling. That way i can shoot any of the 20 ga. ammo in it too... I've tried them on rabbits and grouse, and they work very well!

They are thinner on one edge so the rim of the 20 ga. shell is caught by the 16ga. extractor, you can't even tell your using 20ga. ammo...

I'm able to shoot birds on the wing about the same with the scope mounted as without, and all the many survivors appreciate it. Roll Eyes Wink

I DO like those chamber inserts and want to know more. Cool I need a set for my Sauer 3000 12ga, so I can use 16ga ammo. thumb

A set of 20ga for my various 16s would be the cat's pajamas, IMO.

I know you guys are pretty good on the keyboards and computers, but(looking at the dates of your posts) how in the heck can you post 5 or 6 days in the future. I guess you'd really get a jump on the classifieds.

Looks just like mine. The engravung pattern is all hand cut on these and I just have a vision in my head of this engraver who cuts the same pattern over and over, Of course this means he/she gets good at it right?

I like the way the big scope balances the gun out. I had the idea years ago when I had the claw mounts installed on mine that a fixed 6 was the way to go. Would have been fine if mine had a 42mm objective but the 6x32 Zeiss has served me well. It's the one on the top 30-06 12 ga.
