My drilling just returned from JJ Peradeau. Thanks to all of you for reccomendations to go to him. When she left, she was well off face, with a loose hammer and a strange hole in the top of the stock. She has returned and is as tight as a ....(add your own subtitle). The hole is filled, the hammer tightened and the new scew engraved, and the hinge pin replaced and engraved. What a wonderful job! My drilling is not heavily engraved, just a little scroll here and there. She looks better than when she left. JJ took the time to speak with me to be sure of what I wanted. His work is wonderful, fairly priced, and nice to deal with. What a pleasant experience! Thanks for sending me there. Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

Camera and I are having an unpleasant relationship this morning. It won't work, and I'm getting short on patience. Will post pictures when I get the problem figured out. Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

Not the best photos. She is a hammer model Sauer. I have a thing for the working history of my guns. I got her from Gary Reeder. It was his primary hunting gun for a while. He even took her to Alaska for a successful caribou hunt. He took a ptarmigan and a fox on the same trip with this gun. He got it as part of an estate where it had been the old guys primary gun. According to Gary, the old guy apparently had used it extensively in Africa. She has some light scroll work on the receiver, lever, tigger guard, tang, and on the cartridge box. THe horn butt plate has a few worm holes. I didn't take a photo of the repaired hole. It was about 1/8 to 3/16 inch, and would have fit a wood screw. It was located on the top of the stock, just at the front of the comb. Never could figure out what it was. Gary was also stymied, as was JJ. Just a neat old gun. When I compare her to my Browning and Chapuis, I would liken her to the not quite so pretty sister who can cook and and is fun to be with. I'll try to sit down and do some serious shooting with it over the next couple weeks and post some pictures. Some initial comments. 1. I don't have it sighted in to my satisfaction. 2. First shots are where I want them. 3. I have noticed that when the moon in in the right constellation, it shoots good groups (1.5 inches at thirty to fifty yards with open sights). Other times it strings like hell and keyholes bullets as the barrel heats up. Don't know why, but I bet some of it is the way the dummy has made adjustments to the way it is aligned in the shotgun barrel. 4. It likes fifty grain bullets better than lighter bullets. I need to do some adjustments to the alignment gizmos. I have seven different 22 mag loads and hope to do some serious bench time to make some comparisons.
